Palmeiras need a point from either of their final two Group F games to reach the last 16 of this year’s Copa Libertadores starting with a visit from Ecuador powers Independiente del Valle to Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo on Thursday morning (01:30).

The Brazilian side came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 when these sides met in the reverse fixture in Quito last month leaving Independiente locked in a three-way fight for second place. Below is my Palmeiras vs Independiente del Valle prediction, as well as the latest team news and odds.

Palmeiras vs Independiente Prediction

  • Palmeiras & Over 2.5 Goals @ 11/10
  • Endrick to be first goalscorer @ 4/1

Team News

Centre-back Murilo, suspended at the weekend as Palmeiras lost 2-0 at home to Athletico Paranaense, will return. Coach Abel Ferreira may also bring Richard Rios into midfield to replace Gabriel Menino.

Strikers Dudu and Bruno Rodrigues have been out since the start of the campaign and remain sidelined.

For Independiente, frontman Junior Sornoza is fit after a six-week lay-off to challenge Romario Ibarra for the role alongside Michael Hoyos.

Palmeiras vs Independiente Odds

Palmeiras are 1/3 to beat Independiente del Valle, who are available at 7/1. The draw is a 10/3 shot.

The Brazilians are banging in the goals - 12 in four Group F matches - and are 13/8 to score over 2.5 in this fixture. Palmeiras to win and both teams to score - repeating what happened in Quito - is an 11/5 chance.

Palmeiras & Over 2.5 Goals @ 11/10

For Palmeiras to go to altitude in Quito and come away with a 3-2 win against Independiente del Valle, tells you much about the mettle of Abel Ferreira’s men.

That they did so from 2-0 down was even more impressive.

Ferreira’s men saw just 30 percent of the ball at the Banco Guayaquil but took the chances that came their way. The injury-time winner came from teenage sub Luis Guilherme, one of 10 different scorers for this talented Palmeiras group over the first four matches.

Independiente are going well domestically - they top the Ecuadorian standings - but have now lost two in a row in this competition, going down 2-0 in Argentina against San Lorenzo last time.

A position of strength in the table has evaporated and they may well need to get something in Sao Paulo if they want to qualify. To that end this should be an entertaining affair with a full-strength Palmeiras taken to win a high-scorer.

Palmeiras and over 2.5 goals at 11-10

Endrick to be first goalscorer @ 4/1

Teenage striker Endrick is being talked up as one of Brazil’s hottest young talents and the 17-year-old can land first scorer honours in his club’s fifth group game.

Real Madrid are paying over £60m this summer to sign Endrick, who can sign off for Palmeiras by helping them nail down a last-16 spot in the Copa.

Endrick has scored three goals for the Sao Paulo club this season after hitting the headlines by scoring for Brazil in their 1-0 win at Wembley against England in March.

Endrick to score first at 4-1
