The international break is here but my focus remains on the EFL as games are still taking place in both League 1 and League 2. I have gone to these two divisions for picking out some matches to build an over 2.5 goals accumulator.

I have picked out four fixtures on offer, which combined, pay out at an enticing 7/1. Below you will find my over 2.5 goals tips for Saturday, September 7.

Over 2.5 Goals Tips - Saturday, September 7

  • MK Dons vs Walsall @ 4/5
  • Bradford City vs Carlisle United @ 5/6
  • Notts County vs Accrington Stanley @ 4/9
  • Barnsley vs Bristol Rovers @ 8/11

Over 2.5 goals acca pays at 7.23/1

MK Dons vs Walsall @ 4/5

MK Dons were the favourites to win League 2 before a ball was kicked but Mike Williamson's side have not had the best start to the season. The Dons have lost three of their four opening fixtures and now they host Walsall, who have started strongly to wind up in second, picking up nine points from a possible 12 so far.

The hosts will be in for a tough game but they need to start clicking sooner rather than later or risk getting left behind. It's a tough game to call in terms of the result, but I expect there will be a few goals on offer. Over 2.5 goals has landed in 10 of Walsall's last 12 matches in League 2, while over 3.5 goals has been a winning selection in their last two trips on the road in this division.

Interestingly, this market has been successful in two of MK Dons' fixtures in the league thus far, and both times they were playing at home (Bradford City and Carlisle United).

Bradford City vs Carlisle United @ 5/6

Which coincidentally is the fixture up next on my coupon. Bradford are another team with big aspirations this year and they are currently in a decent position. They are seventh in the table having picked up seven points so far, and up next for them is a home match against strugglers Carlisle United.

The Bantams have seen three of their four matches in League 2 produce at least three goals. One of them was at home to newly-promoted Bromley and they won that 3-1, which should bode well for their meeting with Carlisle, who have already lost on three occasions.

The visitors have seen over 2.5 goals land in four of their last six appearances in League 2, so I think this market is worth backing in this contest too.

Notts County vs Accrington Stanley @ 4/9

Notts County are another team who will aiming for a high-end finish come May and they have been very productive in front of goal so far. The Magpies have netted eight in four matches and only Doncaster Rovers have managed more with nine.

They entertain struggling Accrington Stanley to Meadow Lane this weekend, hoping to push themselves further up the table and possibly into the automatic promotion spots. Over 2.5 goals has been a winning selection in the hosts' last three matches in League 2, and their last two matches have seen at least four goals scored.

Notts County have plenty of firepower but there are still some defensive issues, which was a huge problem for them last year. Accrington have had a disappointing start but they have found the back of the net in four of their last five league defeats on the road. Therefore, I think we can see at least three goals scored in Nottinghamshire on Saturday.

Barnsley vs Bristol Rovers @ 8/11

In League 1, Barnsley will be hoping that they can match last year's feat by finishing in the play-offs again. It is a much tougher division this year with the strength of teams coming down from the Championship as well as the ones coming up from League 2.

The Tykes are currently perched just outside the play-off spots and have picked up seven points from their opening four matches. They were 3-0 winners at Crawley Town last time out, and there have been at least three goals scored in all of their league appearances in 2024/25.

Barnsley are reliable for punters with this market as 12 of their last 13 fixtures in League 1 have seen over 2.5 goals land, which bodes well for their home match with Bristol Rovers this weekend.
