Osasuna vs Getafe Prediction: Osasuna can strike first

The latest round of fixtures in La Liga kicks off on Friday night in Pamplona. Osasuna are targeting their third victory of the campaign, with Getafe providing the opposition.

Los Rojillos will certainly be happy to be returning to El Sadar. They’ve not picked up a single point on the road yet this term, with a 2-0 defeat against Real Betis their latest away disappointment last weekend. They were two down by the interval in that match, with Cucho Hernández’s deflected strike all but killing them off in the 38th minute.

Below you can find my Osasuna vs Getafe predictions.

Alessio Lisci will have mixed emotions overall, having taken seven points from his first seven games as Osasuna boss. His new side have been competitive in virtually every game, but they do look a bit short in the final third, with their dependency on Ante Budimir for goals as strong as ever.

They’ve only scored five so far this term, the third-worst record in the division. Budimir netted two of those, having also been responsible for 44% of his team’s goals last term.

Having led Mirandés to the Segunda División play-off final last term, Lisci arrived with a big reputation, but he has largely inherited his predecessor’s squad. Real Madrid youngster Víctor Muñoz was the only player they spent any money on in the summer, with just two other signings made, both joining on free transfers.

The Pamplona-based side have gone with a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 system in all of their matches. They’d still have a 100% home record had they not conceded a 92nd-minute equaliser against Elche in their last outing in front of their own fans.

They take on a Getafe side that started the season with back-to-back away wins, against all odds given they’d been unable to register most of their summer additions at that point. Christantus Uche and Adrián Liso formed a good strike partnership in their opening fixtures, but they’ve looked much less threatening over the past fortnight without those two.

Uche joined Crystal Palace at the end of the transfer window, freeing up the space that allowed the South Madrid club to finally register a host of players. Meanwhile, Liso is currently on Under-20 World Cup duty with Spain. The youngster has netted three of Getafe’s eight goals so far this term.

Pepe Bordalás would have been disappointed by his team’s failure to pick up more than two points from their last two fixtures. Both were at home against teams expected to struggle, but both Alavés and Levante left the Coliseum with 1-1 draws.

Getafe created very little in either game. They can usually count on Luis Milla to provide a bit of imagination in midfield, but this is still essentially a workmanlike, functional side that prioritises keeping things tight defensively. With the exception of a 3-0 defeat away to leaders Barcelona, Los Azulones have only conceded six goals in six matches this term.

Team News:

Aimar Oroz is the only likely absentee for the hosts. The attacking midfielder has been a big miss in recent weeks, as he is one of the few players in the squad, aside from Budimir, who can be relied upon to chip in with a goal or two.

We may see a slight structural shift from their trip to Seville, with Muñoz potentially returning to operate behind the Croatian targetman. Striker Raúl García may drop to the bench.

As for Getafe, they head north without any injury or suspension concerns. However, they’ll have to cope without Liso again, with Spain in action against Brazil on Saturday in the Under-20 World Cup in Chile.

Full-backs Kiko Femenía and Diego Rico may return to the starting lineup, with the visitors likely to set up with a 5-3-2 system again.

Osasuna vs Getafe Odds

Osasuna head into this match as the 6/5 favourites. Getafe are available at 3/1 to win their third away fixture of the campaign, while you can back the Draw at 15/8.

The strong expectation is that this is not going to be a game that serves up many goals. That’s certainly reflected in the odds, with Both teams to score - No on offer at 4/7, while you can back Under 1.5 goals at 6/5.

If you’re expecting this fixture to serve up some unlikely Friday night entertainment, you can back Over 2.5 goals at long odds of 2/1. Osasuna are priced at 7/4 to score over 1.5 goals, while you can back Getafe to do likewise at odds of 7/2.

Budimir, who netted 21 goals in La Liga last term, is the outstanding candidate in the Goalscorer markets. The 34-year-old is priced at 3/1 to score first, and 7/5 to score anytime.

Borja Mayoral should be the main dangerman for the visitors. The ex-Real Madrid forward has struggled with injuries over the past 18 months, but he did score 15 times in the 2023/24 Spanish top flight. You can back Mayoral to break the deadlock at 13/2 in this fixture, while he’s on offer at 3/1 to score anytime.

Bet 1 - First team to score - Osasuna @ 5/6

Osasuna have tended to start games well this season. Lisci looks for his teams to play with a high intensity from the first whistle, and they’ve made a flying start on a number of occasions already, with three of their five goals coming inside the opening 15 minutes.

Los Rojillos have only conceded twice before the interval, and they do look relatively organised defensively. A misfiring Getafe attack will find it tough to break them down, and I’m backing Osasuna to score first at 5/6 here.

Bet 2 - Osasuna to win & Under 3.5 goals @ 6/4

Some of the underlying data makes for pretty concerning reading as far as Getafe are concerned. They’ve only created 4.6 xG, which is the worst record in the Spanish top flight. Since a 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo on the opening weekend, they’ve failed to better 0.7 xG in a single game.

Their early road successes came largely thanks to their ability to strike with pace on the break with Uche and Liso. However, they don’t have those tools at their disposal any more, and it’s very hard to see where the away team’s threat is going to come from in this fixture.

With their opponents performing much better at home, where they can always rely on strong backing from their supporters, I’m backing Osasuna to win and Under 3.5 goals at 6/4.
