Newcastle vs Wolves Prediction: Shots to fly at St James’ Park

Two sides still without a Premier League win this season, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, face off against each other on Saturday (15:00 BST) at St James' Park; a defeat for the visitors this weekend would be harrowing, as the Old Gold remain the only top-flight club without a single point in 2025/26.
Below are my Newcastle vs Wolves predictions, alongside all the essential team news and match odds.

Team News
Summer signings Yoane Wissa (knee) and Jacob Ramsey (ankle) have been ruled out of Saturday's game for Newcastle.
Another new arrival, Nick Woltemade, though, could be handed his United bow following the German striker's club-record signing from VfB Stuttgart.
Anthony Gordon is still suspended after his red card against Liverpool last month, but Joelinton, who missed the goalless draw at Leeds United last time out, is back fit.
Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, heavily linked with a move to Newcastle all summer, is out injured with a calf injury.
Enso Gonzalez and Leon Chiwome (both knee) are also still sidelined, while Ki-Jana Hoever (knee) and Hugo Bueno (knock) are doubts.
Tolu Arokodare and Ladislav Krejci are in line to make their Old Gold debuts following summer moves from Genk and Girona, respectively.
Newcastle vs Wolves Predicted Lineups
- Newcastle - Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Bruno Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Woltemade, Elanga
- Wolves - Jose Sa; S Bueno, Agbadou, Krejci; Tchatchoua, J Gomes, Andre, Moller Wolfe; Fer Lopez, Hwang, Arias
Newcastle have won the last three meetings and the Magpies are 4/9 to make it four victories in a row on Saturday, implying a 66.7% probability of success, while Wolves are 15/2, or an 11.8% chance, to win at St James' for the first time since December 2018; the draw is priced at 18/5.
Newcastle vs Wolves Stats
- The last three head-to-heads have produced 26+ shots
- Over 24.5 shots landed in 16 of Newcastle's 19 PL home games in 24/25
- Fabian Schar (NEW) received nine yellows and one red in 24/25 PL
Total Shots Over/Under +24.5 - Over 24.5 @ 5/6
This line hasn't landed in any of Newcastle's or Wolves' first three Premier League games this season, but there are mitigating circumstances, particularly concerning the Magpies, who saw Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa sent off in the 66th minute of their goalless draw at Villa Park in gameweek one before one of their own, Gordon, was dismissed on the stroke of half-time in their 3-2 defeat to Liverpool nine days later.
Wolves also had a player handed his marching orders in gameweek two, with Toti ordered from the field in the 49th minute of their 1-0 loss at Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium.
With Wolves point-less and Newcastle, only on two points, also without a league win this season, both sides will be looking to win on Saturday, particularly Howe's side, so I think we could see an entertaining encounter at St James'.
The last three head-to-heads have produced 26+ shots, including last season's corresponding fixture, when 30 (Newcastle - 17, Wolves - 13), were recorded in the Magpies' 3-0 victory.
Over 24.5 shots was a winning selection in 16 of Newcastle's 19 Premier League home games last season, and with a couple of new big-money forwards making their debuts in black and white this weekend, I'm confident the Magpies will be letting fly from all angles; they could cover most of this line themselves.

Player to Receive a Card - Fabian Schar (NEW) @ 3/1
Newcastle centre-back Fabian Schar was a regular in the referee's notebook last season, picking up nine yellows and one red in 34 Premier League appearances, despite 'only' averaging one foul per game.
The 33-year-old managed to avoid a booking against Wolves, but he only played the Old Gold once, in Newcastle's 2-1 win at Molineux last September.
Schar hasn't been shown a card yet this term, but he committed two fouls apiece against Aston Villa and Leeds United.
There could be a few players keeping the Swiss defender occupied on Saturday, with Colombian attacker Jhon Arias, in particular, someone extremely proficient in drawing fouls.
Arias was fouled, on average, 2.8 times per game in this year's Serie A (Brazil) for former club Fluminense, and at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup, he was averaging 2.2 fouls won per game.
Surprisingly, the 27-year-old is yet to win a free-kick - or penalty - in the Premier League, but he's only made two starts following his summer switch, and was taken off before the 65th minute in both. He played predominantly on the right-hand side of Fluminense's attack, but has featured mostly on the left for Wolves so far.
Should Arias play from the left again on Saturday, he might well come into contact several times with Schar, who is expected to line up as a right-sided centre-back, likely in a back four, rather than three, this time.
I fancy the Colombian's chances of getting the better of Schar at least once, which makes the Magpies man an attractive option in the player card market at 3/1, which implies a 25% probability. Schar was shown a card in 10 separate Premier League games last season, which is 29.4% of his appearance total.
