Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Prediction: Magpies and Eagles to ruffle more feathers

Newcastle United made it four Premier League wins on the spin last Sunday against Manchester United, thrashing the Red Devils 4-1 at St James' Park. The 2024/25 Carabao Cup champions are at home again on Wednesday (19:30, Sky Sports Main Event) when they face a Crystal Palace side looking to bounce back after their Saturday defeat at Manchester City (5-2).
Below are my Newcastle vs Crystal Palace predictions, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Anthony Gordon made his return from suspension and injury as a late substitute on Sunday, and the Newcastle and England winger may have to settle for the bench again in midweek following Harvey Barnes' brace against Man United.
Joe Willock is available after passing concussion protocols.
The Magpies have named the same starting XI for five consecutive games, all of which they have won - including the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool - and despite only two full days of rest, there is likely to be a temptation to make it number six on Wednesday.
Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles (both knee) and Lewis Hall (foot) are still unavailable for selection, while Eddie Howe, who missed the weekend win over Man United, is still recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones took charge on Sunday and will lead the team against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa this week.
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Stats
- Last five H2Hs have produced 42.5+ booking points
- Dan Burn (NEW) has shot three times across last two apps (two v Man Utd on Sunday)
- Maxence Lacroix (CRY) recorded three shot attempts in reverse fixture
Palace pair Marc Guehi and Eddie Nketiah missed Saturday's defeat at the Etihad through suspension, but both are back for their midweek trip to Tyneside. Guehi will slot straight back into Oliver Glasner's three-man backline, with Jefferson Lerma returning to midfield in place of Daichi Kamada, while Nketiah is likely to be a substitute at St James'.
Romain Esse and Matt Turner were absent in Manchester due to illness, and both players will be assessed ahead of kick-off.
Cheick Doucoure and Chadi Riad (both knee) remain sidelined for the Eagles, who could hand Will Hughes his first start since March 1.
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace Odds
Newcastle have won their last four league games and are 8/11 to make it five in a row on Wednesday, implying a 57.9% probability, while Palace are 18/5, or a 21.7% chance, to triumph on Tyneside for the first time since February 2021.
The draw is priced at 3/1, both teams to score - which landed in November's reverse fixture at Selhurst Park (1-1) - at 4/6, and over 3.5 total goals at 7/4.
Magpies striker Alexander Isak, who hasn't scored in his last two appearances despite his side scoring seven times, is 9/10 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, followed by teammates Callum Wilson (5/4), Barnes and Palace's leading marksman Jean-Philippe Mateta (both 2/1).
Booking Points Over/Under +42.5 - Over 42.5 @ 5/4
Separated by roughly 300 miles, Newcastle and Palace aren't exactly local rivals, nor have they regularly competed with one another for titles or survival, but they have been involved in some spiky meetings in recent years.
There have been at least five cards - and 50 booking points - shown in the last four meetings between the Magpies and Eagles, with November's stalemate in south London seeing both teams given three yellows and one brandished in the direction of Palace boss Glasner.
That's despite only six clubs receiving fewer yellow cards than Palace (62) in this season's Premier League, and Newcastle (53) above only Brentford (45) in that regard.
Newcastle and Palace both still have a lot to play for in 2024/25, with the former attempting to bring Uefa Champions League football back to St James' next season and still being able to finish as high as second. The Eagles, meanwhile, can move two points behind eighth-placed AFC Bournemouth with a win on Wednesday, and that position could be enough to qualify for the Uefa Conference League.
Therefore, I expect to see another competitive contest between these two teams, and that could well result in over 42.5 booking points again.

Bet Builder - Dan Burn (NEW) 1+ Shots, Maxence Lacroix (CRY) 1+ Shots @ 3/1
Towering central defenders Dan Burn and Maxence Lacroix are both aerial targets for their teams, averaging 0.6 and 0.9 shots per 90 minutes, respectively, in this season's Premier League.
Newcastle and England international Burn made himself a hero on Tyneside last month as he headed in against Liverpool at Wembley to put the Magpies one up in their Carabao Cup final, which they went on to win 2-0.
The 6ft7in centre-back, who can also play at left-back, has been using his height recently to get on to deliveries into the box in the league, too, heading one shot off target in a 3-0 victory at Leicester City before heading two off target six days later against Man United.
Lacroix, meanwhile, failed to record a shot against City on Saturday but had two headers at goal blocked in Palace's previous game, a 2-1 win over rivals Brighton & Hove Albion on April 5, and shot three times against Newcastle at Selhurst - all with his head.
