Both Newcastle and Luton will have been delighted with their midweek Premier League results and that should mean we are served up a good game at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The Magpies became the first visiting team to win a league match at Aston Villa for almost a year when they claimed a 3-1 victory there on Tuesday, but the Hatters’ result was even more eye-catching as they shocked Brighton with a 4-0 win at Kenilworth Road.

Newcastle vs Luton betting tips

  • Both teams to score @ 8/11
  • #PickYourPunt - Anthony Gordon to score, Bruno Guimaraes to be booked & Elijah Adebayo to have a shot on target @ 11/1

Team news

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has plenty of injuries to contend with as Joelinton, Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Elliot Anderson are all unavailable.

Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson, Joe Willock and Jamaal Lascelles are all doubtful, while Alexander Isak is set to undergo a late test after picking up a knock in the win at Villa.

Marvelous Nakamba, Mads Andersen, Issa Kabore and Tom Lockyer are all out for the Hatters, while Teden Mengi and Jacob Brown are doubtful.

Confidence is not going to be a problem for either of these two teams after a midweek to remember and that is good news for anyone heading to St James’ Park in search of entertainment.

Newcastle’s standing outside the top six will be a disappointment after the euphoria that greeted their Saudi takeover, but a 3-1 win at Villa, who had not lost at home in the league for almost a year, was a lot more like it.

However, they have still conceded 11 goals in their last four league outings and that gives promoted Town at least a chance of making their mark on their long trip to the north-east.

The Hatters have collected three wins and a draw from their last five Premier League outings, including a 1-0 win over Eddie Howe’s boys in December, and a 4-0 drubbing of Brighton on Tuesday has given them real belief that they can stay up this season.

So, there is every reason to expect them to be positive and as both teams have scored in 15 of their 21 league outings this season, it seems likely that pattern will continue.

Both teams to score Newcastle vs Luton

#PickYourPunt - Anthony Gordon to score, Bruno Guimaraes to be booked & Elijah Adebayo to have a shot on target @ 11/1

There are three bets that appeal which can be combined for a #PickYourPunt selection that would pay out at 11/1 if it was successful.

Howe’s attacking options are limited with Callum Wilson set to miss out and no guarantees that Sweden striker Isak will be fit, so keep a close eye on Anthony Gordon.

The former Everton midfielder, who has scored seven goals this season, could play in an advanced position which would give him a great chance of adding to that tally.

Another home player could chalk up a telling statistic in this encounter and it would not be a surprise to see Bruno Guimaraes go into the book for the ninth time this season.

He has been cautioned in three of his last four league matches and could be again, while Luton forward Elijah Adebayo should at least have a shot on target following his superb display in midweek when the towering striker netted a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Brighton.

Match Odds

Despite their injury issues, Newcastle are 2/5 to collect the three points while Luton are 13/2 to boost their hopes of staving off relegation with another priceless win, while the draw is available at 4/1.
