Newcastle have won five of their last seven Premier League games to renew hope of pinching fifth spot away from stuttering Tottenham and the Magpies will be expected to make the most of their home fortress against Brighton & Hove Albion, whom they host on Saturday at 3pm.

Saturday’s 3pm kick-off is of far more significance for European-chasing Newcastle than it is for Brighton, who sit 11th following a run of only two wins from their last ten top-flight matches. Only Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal have collected more points at home this season than Eddie Howe’s side and the injury situation is starting to clear for the Magpies.

Team News

Newcastle have been plagued by injury all season but their squad is looking stronger with Nick Pope, Joelinton and Miguel Almiron returning to the bench for last weekend’s 4-1 victory at Burnley.

However, the Magpies are still without centre-backs Sven Botman, Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles as well as midfielder Lewis Miley and Joe Willock.

Matt Targett is out for the rest of the season, while Sandro Tonali is suspended and Kieran Trippier is a doubt.

Brighton are also severely depleted by injuries with Evan Ferguson - the hat-trick hero from the reverse fixture - Solly March, Jack Hinshelwood, Kaoru Mitoma, James Milner, Tariq Lamptey and Pervis Estupinan all sidelined.

Adam Lallana and Jan Paul van Hecke are also injury doubts for the Seagulls.

Newcastle vs Brighton Odds

Armed with home advantage, Newcastle are 3/5 to come out on top while the draw is 7/2 and Brighton are 4/1 to complete a Premier League double over the Magpies following their 3-1 victory at the Amex Stadium in September.

Both teams have scored in four of the last five league meetings between these sides and that is a 2/5 chance. Over 3.5 goals, which has featured in the pair’s last two league fixtures, is 5/6.

Newcastle to win & both teams to score @ 7/5

Newcastle are finishing the season with a late rattle and, having won four of their last five Premier League matches, they should have the beating of an injury-hit Brighton side with nothing to play for.

The Magpies were 4-1 winners the last time they hosted Brighton in the top flight and they have won three of their last four games by 4-0, 5-1 and 4-1 scorelines.

They could rack up the goals against a Seagulls side who had conceded 11 times in four matches before beating Aston Villa 1-0 last weekend.

Brighton have struggled on their travels this term, winning only four of 18 road trips and leaking 34 goals along the way.

However, Newcastle will have to rely on a makeshift defence with first-choice centre-backs Botman and Schar missing and Lascelles also out, so Roberto De Zerbi’s visitors may grab a consolation goal.

Newcastle and both teams to score at 7/5 Alexander Isak to score first @ 7/2

Alexander Isak has been Newcastle’s shining light this season with 20 goals in 27 Premier League appearances and the prolific Swedish striker open the scoring for the Magpies against Brighton.

Isak has netted in seven of his last nine league starts and, interestingly, 14 of his 20 goals have come at St James’ Park.

The 24-year-old, who is also on penalty duty, has notched first in four of Newcastle’s last five top-flight home games and he looks good value to repeat the trick.
