Netherlands vs Canada Prediction: De Oranje to prevail on home soil

The Netherlands and Canada are going through their final preparations for Euro 2024 and Copa America respectively, and they will face each other in a friendly at De Kuip on Thursday evening (19:45).
This is only the second meeting between the two sides and the last time was also a friendly in 1994, in which the Netherlands won 3-0. Read on for my Netherlands vs Canada prediction, featuring match odds and team news.
Netherlands vs Canada Betting Tips
The Netherlands are the 2/5 favourites to win here, which gives them a 71.4% chance of victory. Canada are priced at 7/1, giving them an implied probability of 12.5%. The draw is available at 18/5 (21.7%).
Both teams to score is valued at 4/5 and over 2.5 goals is on offer at 4/7.
Dutch striker Memphis Depay, who is now a free agent following his exit from Atletico Madrid, will want to impress this summer as he tries to find a new club. He is marketed at 4/1 to open the scoring on Thursday evening.
Team News
Frenkie de Jong is out injured for De Oranje, but other than that, Ronald Koeman has all of his squad to choose from for this clash. However, he is likely to make changes to the side that were defeated by Germany back in March.
Cody Gakpo could return to attack, and his manager will be hoping that he can have a similar impact up front at the Euros as he did at the 2022 World Cup. Teun Koopmeiners, a Europa League winner with Atalanta, will be pushing to solidify a starting spot in Germany and he will likely start against Canada.
Canada boss Jesse Marsch is without key defender Joel Waterman, and so he must come up with a practical solution at centre-back if he persists with a five-man back line. Derek Cornelius is the most likely player to be drafted in his place.
After an impressive loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday, Ike Ugbo is expected to lead the line for Les Rouges.
Netherlands and both teams to score @ 15/8
We don't have a lot of matches to compare when looking at the record between these two teams. The Netherlands came out on top in their only meeting 30 years ago and I expect them to win on this occasion, too.
The World Cup quarter-finalists will be looking to enjoy a similar positive at Euro 2024, but they face a tough test with France, Poland and Austria. Koeman will want to get an idea of what his best XI will be for the summer and the players themselves will be out to play themselves into contention over the next two matches against Canada and Iceland.
Canada will find this a tough test but I expect them to be competitive, and even give De Oranje a few things to think about. The Dutch defence isn't the strongest in Europe and the Canucks will feel as though they can get on the scoresheet, especially if their star player Alphonso Davies is on the pitch.
Cody Gakpo anytime goalscorer @ 11/8
Gakpo is a player who his manager, teammates and fans will be expecting big things from this summer after his heroics in Qatar. The 25-year-old scored three goals in five outings in that tournament as the Netherlands' journey came to an end in the quarter-finals at the hands of eventual winners Argentina.
In the qualifying campaign for this summer's Euros, Gakpo once again scored three goals in five appearances. This, coupled with his 16 goals for Liverpool across all competitions this term, would suggest he will be key for De Oranje once again.
He will want to get into the best shape for the tournament in Germany and what better way to do that than getting a run out here and topping it off with a goal. Gakpo is capable of causing Canada all sorts of problems, wherever he features in attack, and I fancy him to get on the scoresheet at De Kuip.
