Team News
The big news from Monterrey's camp is that former Real Madrid and Spain star Sergio Ramos is back fit following a recent leg injury that kept him out of Rayados' last four games. Ramos, who turned 39 years old on March 30, is expected to return to the starting XI for Domenec Torrent's first match in charge after the Spaniard was appointed head coach last month.
Ramos is expected to be joined in the line-up by ex-Sevilla wingers Jesus Corona and Lucas Ocampos, and two more former Spain internationals, Sergio Canales and Oliver Torres, could also feature.
Monterrey Club World Cup Preview
In attack, German Berterame is the main man, and he arrives at this tournament in terrific form, with five goals in his last eight appearances.
Monterrey vs Inter Milan Stats
- Sergio Ramos (MON) has recorded 2+ shots in seven of his nine appearances this year
- Francesco Acerbi (INT) registered 1+ shots in three of his last four CL games
Inter begin life after Simone Inzaghi on Wednesday, with the Italian tactician leaving the Serie A club for Saudi side Al Hilal earlier this month. Inzaghi led the Nerazzurri to the 2025 Uefa Champions League final, but like in 2023, they fell short at the final hurdle, suffering a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on May 31, while they missed out on the Scudetto to Napoli on the final day of the season.
Joaquin Correa, who scored in Inter's 2-0 final-day victory over Como on May 23, has left for Brazilian club Botafogo, but Petar Sucic and Luis Henrique have joined from Dinamo Zagreb and Olympique Marseille, respectively, to bolster their squad at the Club World Cup.
Inter Milan Club World Cup Preview
Cristian Chivu, who made over 150 appearances for Inter in his playing days, winning the Club World Cup in 2010, has succeeded Inzaghi after helping to keep Parma in Serie A.
The Romanian's first starting XI should feature many of the usual suspects, including skipper Lautaro Martinez, fellow forward Marcus Thuram and influential midfielder Nicolo Barella, while Sucic and Luis Henrique could make their debuts from the off.
However, Yann Bisseck (thigh), Denzel Dumfries (muscle) and Hakan Calhanoglu (ankle) could all miss out due to injury, while Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi is unable to travel to the USA amid airstrikes in his homeland.
Monterrey are 5/1, or a 16.7% chance, to kick off their Club World Cup campaign with all three points in Pasadena, while Inter are 4/7 to win, implying a 63.6% probability of success.
The draw is priced at 10/3, both teams to score at 4/5, and over 2.5 total goals at 4/6.
Betfred are offering five price boosts on this game, including Thuram to score anytime from 6/4 to 2/1.
Player to Have 2 or More Shots - Sergio Ramos (MON) @ 5/4
I couldn't ignore the Mexican side's main man, could I?
The Spanish centre-back sent shockwaves around the world with his move to Monterrey earlier this year, and in true Sergio Ramos style, he's been the hero or villain in most matches.
He's only played nine times for Rayados, but the veteran defender has scored four goals and received three cards - two yellows and one red.
Unsurprisingly, Ramos, who scored so many important goals for Real Madrid, hasn't been shy in shooting for his new side, averaging 2.1 shots per game in the Liga MX (Clausura) and recording three shots in his only Concacaf Champions Cup appearance.
The Spaniard has shot 2+ times in seven of his nine matches for Monterrey, and while Inter are expected to offer more resistance than any of the previous clubs he has faced, the Ramos spring can be difficult for any opponent to handle, despite his advancing years.
Inter conceded two shots to another 6ft centre-back, Ramos' former teammate Marquinhos, in last month's Champions League final defeat, while in their last Serie A game, both Como centre-backs, Ignace Van der Brempt and Ivan Smolcic, shot once and twice, respectively.
The Nerazzurri have conceded a shot to at least one opposition centre-half in their last four matches, and their last two have seen one record exactly two attempts, so Ramos looks good for a couple at the Rose Bowl.

Player to Have 1 or More Shots - Francesco Acerbi (INT) @ 11/8
I'm staying in the player shots market for my second tip, but dropping down to 'one' for Inter centre-back Francesco Acerbi.
The 37-year-old came up clutch in my PSG-Inter Bet Builder Tips for last month's Champions League final in Munich, rising highest from a corner in the 23rd minute to cover his one-shot selection.
He didn't manage to get on the scoresheet at the Allianz Arena as he had done in the second leg of his side's semi-final against Barcelona, but that shot at goal in Germany was his fifth in nine Champions League season appearances (0.6 per game), and the third in his last four.
Monterrey, meanwhile, conceded a shot to Toluca centre-back Luan Garcia in their last match, while in a 2-1 defeat to Pachuca on April 28, their goal was breached by a centre-half, Eduardo Bauermann, from a corner.
Having Ramos back in the side should solidify Monterrey from set-piece situations, but Acerbi, standing at 6ft4in, will back himself to get his head to at least one delivery into the box.
