After differing results in the Carabao Cup in midweek, Millwall face Sheff Wed in the Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Den (15:00). Neil Harris has endured a sticky start to this season and his side were beaten by Leyton Orient on Tuesday night, so he will be hoping for the soothing tonic of three points ahead of the international break.

Below you can find my Millwall vs Sheff Wed prediction, featuring team news and betting tips.

Millwall vs Sheff Wed Betting Tips

  • Sheff Wed to win @ 9/5
  • Jamal Lowe anytime scorer @ 100/30

Team News

Tom Bradshaw picked up an injury in that defeat to Leyton Orient and could well miss this weekend’s match for the hosts, while those that featured in midweek haven’t done much to earn a start here. Macaulay Langstaff is the most likely candidate to replace Bradshaw, with Duncan Watmore, George Honeyman and Romain Esse all likely to start behind the former Notts County man.

For Wednesday, Charlie McNeil was taken off in midweek after an awkward fall so may not be included in the squad. New arrival Shea Charles has come in from Southampton and could start in a midfield three if Danny Rohl changes things up. Jamal Lowe did well off the bench and should be in line to start after another good performance, potentially in place of Josh Windass.

Millwall vs Sheff Wed Odds

Millwall are priced at 13/10 to win this one, with Sheff Wed available at 9/5. A draw can be backed at 11/5, over 2.5 goals is 11/10 and BTTS is 4/5.

Sheff Wed to win @ 9/5

Sheffield Wednesday are a far superior team to Millwall right now. Sometimes it really is as simple as that. The Owls hammered Grimsby Town 5-1 in midweek, which was welcome given they had tasted defeat against Sunderland and Leeds in the previous two league matches.

Leeds were the pre-season favourites and Sunderland have started the season on fire, so there is no shame in losing to those two teams, but the Owls must be targeting three points at the Den. Millwall, now without Bradshaw, have been pretty turgid so far this term. They had no shots on target at home to Leyton Orient in midweek, and also failed to score at Hull before that.

They’ve got just one point from three league matches and it feels like the pressure is already mounting around Harris. I think Wednesday can take advantage of an atmosphere that could quickly turn toxic if the home side fall behind.

Jamal Lowe anytime scorer @ 100/30

Now I wouldn’t usually jump at an anytime goalscorer, but I think we are getting good odds of Lowe to find the net during the match, based on what we have seen recently. He came off the bench and scored against Grimsby, and I think Rohl will give him another start after he led the line on a difficult afternoon against Leeds last weekend.

He has an eye for goal and is finally getting a run of games, plus, up against a weak defence that conceded three to Watford and four to Bristol City, I think he will be able to find the net. Lowe is an experienced head at this level, so backing him to do well this season feels like a smart move. He can score at the Den.
