Millwall vs Preston Prediction: Drab affair expected at the Den

Millwall and Preston meet at the Den this Saturday (15:00), having both endured pretty poor starts to the new campaign. Six games in, they have each picked up just five points, and linger just above the relegation zone at this stage. Obviously there is a long way to go, but the signs have not been all that positive.
Preston have already parted ways with Ryan Lowe, with Paul Heckingbottom taking the reins, and they head to the capital looking to secure their first away maximum of the campaign. Meanwhile, Neil Harris has only seen his side win once on home soil in all competitions.
Below you can find my Millwall vs Preston prediction, featuring team news and betting tips.
Team News
Tom Bradshaw, Billy Mitchell and Josh Coburn all remain out for the hosts, so summer signing Mihailo Ivanovic could make his full league debut after coming off the bench against QPR. Harris will hope for a better attacking display from his side, with Duncan Watmore, Romain Esse and George Honeyman the creative sparks in this team.
Meanwhile, Preston have Sam Greenwood suspended for this one, while fellow forward Milutin Osmajic remains under investigation by the FA having appeared to bite Owen Beck against Blackburn Rovers. He is likely to miss a lot of football, starting here, which means Will Keane should come back into the team to lead the line. Heckingbottom must be fuming with his team’s lack of discipline, which has seriously hampered his options for this one.
Millwall are priced at 10/11 to win, with the away side available at 11/4 for the win. A split of the spoils can be backed at 12/5, BTTS is 11/10 and over 2.5 goals is 11/8.
Draw @ 11/4
I just can’t separate these two right now, and honestly I think they are two of the poorer sides in the Championship this season. I think it was a slightly odd decision for Millwall to stick with Neil Harris after he saved them from relegation, not because he didn’t do a good enough job, but because I don’t see how he progresses this team.
Last season they flipped from Joe Edwards, who was a progressive young coach that needed more time, to a safe pair of hands to keep them up. However, now his style is arguably causing them issues, and I’m not sure how many wins they are going to pick up this term under his tenure. Meanwhile, Preston are a bit of a mess still. I seriously worried for them under Lowe, and although I think Heckingbottom is an improvement, I don’t think much of their squad, especially with the current suspensions. I think this is going to be a pretty drab draw on Saturday afternoon.

Millwall 0-0 Preston @ 15/2
Preston have amassed the second-lowest expected goals in the Championship this season (3.4), only just edging out basement boys Cardiff City. They have been remarkably poor going forward this term, and then when you throw in the two key attacking suspensions, things don’t look likely to improve.
I think they are likely to fail to score here, but I also think Millwall can be kept at bay. They scored three times against Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday, but have only managed one goal in their last two outings. Preston will know the job on their hands here and are likely to come out with a defensive mindset, so I can see a 0-0 stalemate at the Den.
