Midtjylland vs UE Santa Coloma Prediction: Hosts to progress without breaking a sweat

Danish champions FC Midtjylland already have one foot in the next round of the Champions League as they prepare to host UE Santa Coloma on Wednesday in the second leg of their second-round tie. (18:15 KO BST). 

Thomas Thomasberg's team secured a 3-0 win in Andorra last week, so they are now just 90 minutes away from reaching the third round, where they are likely to play Ferencvaros, who are leading The New Saints 5-0.

Thomasberg has had to start the new season without three of his first-team players, with Gue-sung Cho, Marrony and Paulinho all nursing knee injuries that will keep them sidelined for another month. 

New signing Musiliu Olayinka Odekunle did not make an appearance in the first leg and could be handed his first taste of European football, although that may have to come from the bench. 

Santa Coloma have no new injury concerns, but coach Ramon Caldere may make changes after a poor display in the first leg, with Victor Tellado likely to get the nod after he made an impact from the bench.

Santa Coloma are huge outsiders, with the Andorran outfit 6/1 to win or draw in the double chance market.

Thomasberg's team are already two games into their Superliga campaign, but they have drawn both of those contests. 

The Wolves, who won their fourth league title last season, are difficult to beat though, and they are unbeaten in their previous eight competitive games in all competitions. 

They are unbeaten in four at home in competitive fixtures, and while they have kept only two clean sheets in their last 10 games in front of their own fans, they are due to face a team who cannot compete with them. 

Santa Coloma have won just one game in European competition in their history, and they failed to create any big chances in last week's 3-0 defeat at home.

Midtjylland's lacklustre start to the domestic campaign means Thomasberg will want to try to work on consistency in Europe. 

Wednesday's tie gives him the perfect opportunity to build confidence, especially with a game against AaB on the horizon this weekend. 

In last week's win in Andorra, Midtjylland finished the game with an xG of 3.03, and if they maintain those standards, they should have too much quality and secure another routine win as they try to reach the group stage of the Champions League.
