Midtjylland vs Hoffenheim Prediction: Hosts can add to Hoffenheim’s woes

Hoffenheim are in a tough spot and a trip to Midtjylland in their opening game of the Europa League on Wednesday night (20:00, discovery+) does not make life any easier for manager Pellegrino Matarazzo. 

Currently on a three-game losing streak, Hoffenheim next head to Denmark to face a Midtjylland side who have made MCH Arena a tough place for opposition sides to go. Unbeaten in their last 11 games at their ground in Herning, Midtjylland will fancy their chances of adding to Hoffenheim’s woes and piling more pressure on American coach Matarazzo.

Midtjylland are 7/5 to claim all three points on home soil, while Hoffenheim are available at 7/4 to head south with the win.

Starting with the hosts, Mikel Gogorza, Oliver Sorensen, Adam Buksa and Adam Gabriel are all ruled out of Wednesday's game due to injury. 

Gue-Sung Cho, Marrony, Juninho and Paulinho are all in the running to make a return after their recent injuries, but Emiliano Martinez is a doubt after being forced off at the weekend. 

As for Hoffenheim, the Bundesliga side's recent form has certainly not been helped by injuries. 

Ozan Kabak, Grischa Promel, Ihlas Bebou, Finne Ole Becker, Dennis Geiger and David Jurasek are all in the treatment room. 

Meanwhile, Florian Grillitsch is hoping to overcome an illness in time for the trip to Denmark this week. 

Midtjylland to win @ 7/5 

Riding a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions with three wins and one draw, Midtjylland find themselves in good form going into Wednesday's first game in the league phase of the new-look Europa League. 

Midtjylland, who sit top of the Danish Superliga table after nine games of the season, have been especially strong at home with that 11-game run without defeat at MCH Arena. 

Their strong home record also applies to the Europa League, as Midtjylland have lost only one of their last seven home games in this competition. 

In that time, Sporting Braga, Lazio and Sturm Graz have all left MCH Arena in defeat. 

Hoffenheim meanwhile have lost all of their last three games against Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin, conceding nine goals in those matches. 

With Hoffenheim failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their games in all competitions this season, Midtjylland are attractively priced to claim all three points on Wednesday night.  

Franculino Dju anytime goalscorer @ 7/4 

Franculino Dju has enjoyed a positive start to the season and the 20-year-old Guinea-Bissau international should have opportunities to score past this porous Hoffenheim defence. 

Dju has found the net in four of Midtjylland's last five games and is certainly worth considering in the anytime goalscorer market to add to his tally on Wednesday.
