Mansfield Town can celebrate as their fast start in League 1 has helped them maintain their third tier status with games to spare. They end the campaign with back-to-back games at the One Call Stadium, starting with Peterborough United on Wednesday (19:45, Sky Sports+). The Stags are on a six-game run without a win in the league and suffered a 4-0 thrashing against champions Birmingham City on Sunday.

Peterborough have experienced three draws on the bounce in the league coming into this but they will sense an opportunity against their out-of-form hosts. Read on for my Mansfield vs Peterborough predictions. accompanied by the latest match odds and team news.

Team News

Mansfield are missing several players ahead of their clash with Peterborough. Lucas Akins is unavailable after being jailed for dangerous driving last week.

Baily Cargill, Elliott Hewitt, Alfie Kilgour, Aaron Lewis, Frazer Blake-Tracy, Ben Quinn, Rhys Oates and Lee Gregory are all out injured for the Stags. Their top scorer Will Evans remains a doubt and he has been sorely missed over the past three matches.

Stephen Quinn and Calum MacDonald returned to the squad at Birmingham, with the former going straight into the starting XI.

Mansfield vs Peterborough Stats

  • Mansfield have lost five of their last six matches in League 1
  • Ricky-Jade Jones (PET) has two goals in his last three games

Peterborough make the trip to Nottinghamshire with Tayo Edun back available following a four-game suspension.

Emmanuel Fernandez, Oscar Wallin and Archie Collins will need to be monitored ahead of Wednesday's clash but Nicholas Bilokapic, Cian Hayes are ruled out through injury.

Rio Adebisi and Mahamadou Susoho are also unavailable for Posh.

Mansfield vs Peterborough Odds

Mansfield are six games without a win but they are 23/20 to win on Wednesday and they did beat Peterborough 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in December.

Posh have drawn each of their past three fixtures in the third tier and the stalemate is marketed at 13/5, which has an implied probability of 27.8%.

The visitors are 9/4 to come away with the three points, which they have managed in two of their last four away trips in League 1.

Both teams to score has struck in Peterborough's previous four outings in the league and BTTS is available at 4/7 this time around.

Peterborough and both teams to score @ 4/1

Mansfield appear to be struggling without their top scorer Evans and their other unavailable stars, and they will be pleased that they have have confirmed their League 1 status as their current form has disappointing.

Six matches without a win with 19 goals conceded is not for good reading but the fans won't care as their main objective has been met. This does leave me thinking they will fall to another defeat, though, as Peterborough are in better form, and I believe their attackers can run riot against the Stags.

The pace that Posh have in attacking areas is enough to pose a problem for any team in the division, and with them all fit and available here, I think we could see them combine to help Darren Ferguson's team get back to winning ways.

Ricky-Jade Jones anytime goalscorer @ 21/10

The one Posh attacker I'm backing to have an impact in this contest is Ricky-Jade Jones. The forward is a key player for the visitors and he has contributed 11 goals and three assists for his team in the league this term.

The 22-year-old, is going to be of interest to a host of clubs in the summer and he can attract a few more suitors by grabbing a couple more goals before the season's end.

When I talk about the explosive pace Posh have in attack, he's who springs to mind because his acceleration is among the best in the division, and this can torment the struggling Stags on Wednesday.

Jones has two goals in his last three appearances heading to NG18, and I fancy him to get on the scoresheet again.
