A repeat of last year's Carabao Cup final takes place on Wednesday evening (20:15) at Old Trafford, as Manchester United face Newcastle United.

Erik ten Hag's men cruised to a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace to get to this stage, while the Magpies ended Manchester City's quadruple hopes with a memorable one-goal victory.

However, United are looking to bounce back from a derby defeat at the weekend, while Newcastle shared the spoils with Wolves in their last outing.

Man Utd vs Newcastle Prediction

  • Double chance - Newcastle or draw @ 4/6
  • Callum Wilson to score anytime @ 9/5

Team News

Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez all remain absent for United, while Jadon Sancho continues to be ostracised from the first team.

The Manchester derby came too soon for Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka but both men are expected to feature on Wednesday.

As for Newcastle, Sandro Tonali began his 10-month ban for betting breaches at the weekend, while Harvey Barnes, Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy, Sven Botman and Lewis Miley all remain on the treatment table.

Match Odds

United are 23/20 to claim a place in the quarter-finals, while Newcastle are 23/10 to get revenge for last year's defeat in the final and the draw is 12/5 - all 90 minute betting.

Last year's Wembley showpiece finished 2-0 to the Red Devils, and a repeat of the scoreline can be backed at 10/1.

However, if you fancy both teams to find the back of the net, that's priced up at 8/11.

Double chance - Newcastle or draw @ 4/6

Manchester United fell to another heavy derby defeat on Sunday and their miserable season could continue when last season’s Carabao Cup finalists meet again on Wednesday evening.

We're 14 competitive games into the new season and as a fan, I'm struggling to think of what could be described as a good display.

Newcastle, by contrast, have looked excellent at times this season and will fancy their chances at Old Trafford.

The Magpies have lost just one of their last 10 competitive games and are unbeaten in their last four away outings, while their only loss in their last four meetings with Manchester United was last season’s cup final.

Callum Wilson to score anytime @ 9/5

With Alexander Isak still out injured, it's expected that Wilson will retain his place up top for the trip to Old Trafford.

The former Bournemouth striker bagged a brace at the weekend in the 2-2 draw with Wolves, and was in the starting XI in the cup final defeat to United last term, so he'll likely be looking for revenge.

The Red Devils have struggled defensively all season, and conceded yet another three goals at the weekend, meaning that they have shipped eight goals in their last five games across all competitions, so Wilson should get chances here.
