Man utd vs brentford

The Premier League finally returns after the international break, and Manchester United will be targeting a much-needed victory when they welcome Brentford to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon (15:00).

Erik ten Hag's future continues to be a talking point as United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, and Saturday's opponents sit two points above them heading into the weekend. Read on for my Man United vs Brentford prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo all withdrew from international duty last week, suggesting they are unlikely to feature here.

Harry Maguire has joined the ever-growing injury list with a knee problem, while Noussair Mazraoui isn't expected back until next month after undergoing a minor heart procedure.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia continue to be unavailable, meaning that Diogo Dalot will likely fill in at left-back, while Leny Yoro remains absent and Manuel Ugarte was forced off for Uruguay in their World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.

As for Brentford, Mathias Jensen could be in line to return, though the game may come too soon for Rico Henry, Yoane Wissa, Joshua Dasilva and Igor Thiago, who all remain in the treatment room.

That apart, Thomas Frank may opt for the same XI that got the better of Wolves before the international break.

United are favourites for the game at 7/10, giving them an implied win probability of 58.8%, with the draw priced up at 16/5, and a Brentford win can be backed at 18/5.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both lead the anytime goalscorer market at 7/5, followed closely by Garnacho and Bryan Mbeumo at 7/4. Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes are both currently priced up at 9/4 and Christian Norgaard - who scored in Brentford's 5-3 win over Wolves before the international break - is a decent outside pick at 17/2.

Double Chance - Draw or Brentford @ 11/10

United have failed to win their last five games and pressure is continuing to mount on Ten Hag's side.

In addition, the Red Devils have lost their last two home games to nil, and while Brentford have struggled in away trips to Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham, a visit to Old Trafford isn’t on the same level these days and I fancy them to secure a result.

Goals have been hard to come by for the hosts, with United's xG being the eighth-highest in the league. However, only Southampton have scored fewer goals than the Red Devils' five this campaign, meaning that the chances are being created, but not put away.

The Bees have proven themselves to be quick out of the blocks this campaign, scoring the opening goal in each of their last five league outings, netting within 90 seconds of the first whistle in their last four. When they go a goal behind, United often look lethargic and disinterested, and Brentford's early intensity may stun the Old Trafford faithful.

United won this fixture last year, due to two late Scott McTominay strikes bailing them out, and I don't think Ten Hag's side will be as fortunate this time around. I think Brentford can get a result - whether that's just one point or all three.

Bryan Mbeumo to score anytime @ 7/4

No Manchester United player can match the form of Mbeumo, who's scored six goals in seven games this term - only Erling Haaland has scored more.

In addition, the 25-year-old has netted in three matches on the spin heading into Saturday's meeting at Old Trafford, and at 7/4, I think he's a decent pick to score anytime.
