In the bid to qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany alongside Group J frontrunners Portugal, there will be plenty of attention on Monday night’s clash between Luxembourg and Slovakia. 

These sides played out a goalless draw in their previous meeting back in March, but Slovakia’s recent performances suggest they can claim all three points at the Stade de Luxembourg, to consolidate their place in second in the group and edge closer to next summer’s tournament in Germany.

Team news 

Starting with the hosts, Luxembourg have reported no fresh injury concerns following their 1-1 draw with Iceland on Friday night. 

Gerson Rodrigues came off the bench to score against Iceland and is pushing hard for a starting place. 

As for Slovakia, there are no new injuries either to report, but the pair of Laszlo Benes and Tomas Suslov will be pushing for starting roles after impressing off the bench in a 3-2 defeat in Portugal. 

Paris Saint-Germain’s Milan Skriniar is set to wear the armband once again at the heart of the Slovak defence, while Ondrej Duda and Stanislav Lobotka are also certain starters for the travelling side. 

Slovakia to win @ 5/4 

While they lost both games 1-0 and 3-2, Slovakia earned plenty of plaudits for their performances home and away against Portugal. 

Pushing the former European champions hard in both games, it stands the Slovakians in good stead for the next test to come. 

Luxembourg suffered a 9-0 thrashing in their last meeting with Portugal, which suggests Slovakia are worth backing at 5/4 to claim the victory in this one. 

David Hancko to score anytime @ 12/1

An unlikely player has hit some goalscoring form for his country of late and that’s Slovakian defender David Hancko. 

The Feyenoord defender has found the back of the net in each of Slovakia’s last two games and can make it three on the spin if he scores on Wednesday night. 

At 6ft 2in, Hancko has an aerial presence that Luxembourg might struggle to deal with , so look out for Hancko getting forward for corners and free-kicks. 

The 25-year-old scored inside the first minute when Slovakia beat Liechtenstein last month and, while he’s 28/1 to score the first goal, we’ve gone with Hancko at 12/1 to score anytime on Monday.

Looking at the match markets other than our selection, Luxembourg are available at 12/5 to win, with the draw on the night currently 21/10. 

Goals are expected to be at a premium in what might well be a cagey affair at the Stade de Luxembourg. 

With that in mind, over 2.5 total goals on the night is 6/5, while the under market has odds of 8/13.
