Liverpool vs AC Milan Prediction: Debutants to make big impact

There’s an awful lot of excitement surrounding Liverpool Football Club right now as the Premier League champions spend big in the transfer window. Alexander Isak is the latest name in their sights as he targets a move away from Newcastle United, while the Liverpool fans will be keen to cast an eye over the likes of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike for the first time.
They face AC Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday (12:30 BST, LFCTV), as their pre-season continues. Check out my Liverpool vs AC Milan predictions below.

Team News
Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giorgi Mamardashvili all made their Liverpool debuts against Preston, but there were a few big names missing at Deepdale. Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson Becker and Ibrahima Konate all sat that one out but have travelled to the Far East on this pre-season tour.
There’s a lot of transfer interest from Bayern Munich in winger Luis Diaz, and so he may be left out of the side while that saga continues, while all eyes will be on Wirtz and Ekitike as they should get their first run-outs in red. As always, we can expect loads of changes in pre-season, with plenty of youngsters also expected to be handed minutes.
Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders have already left AC Milan this summer, and their star man Rafael Leao continues to be linked with a move away from the club. However, he started in the recent 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and should be involved again in this one.
Summer signing Luka Modric didn’t play against Arsenal and may not be involved in this one either, but fellow arrival Samuele Ricci should be involved. Santiago Gimenez played in the Gold Cup this summer and hasn’t yet featured in pre-season as a result, but he is much-needed as fellow strikers Luka Jovic, Tammy Abraham and Francesco Camarda have all left the club.
Liverpool are priced at 4/11 to win this match, giving them an implied win probability of 73%. AC Milan can be backed at 11/2 while a draw is 7/2.
Over 2.5 goals is 1/2, BTTS is 4/6 and Liverpool are 11/10 to win with a -1 handicap.
Liverpool to win and BTTS @ 13/8
Liverpool should win this game and the excitement around their new arrivals is incredibly high indeed. AC Milan gave Arsenal a good test but ultimately lost 1-0 and Slot’s men will hope to start this tour with a bang.
Obviously, there isn’t that much we can read into a friendly match, but this is a chance for Liverpool to put a marker down. They were imperious in the Premier League last season and have added heavily to their squad this summer so they should improve again, while AC Milan have lost several key players and could be without a fit striker.
Despite those concerns about Milan, the likes of Leao and Christian Pulisic should have enough to find the net in this pre-season friendly, as both teams are likely to rotate heavily in the second half. Liverpool to win and BTTS is my first selection.

Over 2.5 Liverpool goals @ 5/4
I will also back Liverpool to score three or more goals against Milan, purely based on the excitement around their attacking players. I’d always recommend small stakes and care when betting on friendlies as there is little evidence or stats for us to go on, and they aren’t competitive fixtures, but it does feel like the Reds could have a good time in front of goal.
Wirtz and Ekitike will be desperate to score on their debuts while the other attackers will want to prove themselves with a whole host of elite players now pushing them. This should be a good watch on Saturday lunchtime.
