Lincoln city

Lincoln City welcome Chesterfield to Sincil Bank on Tuesday (19:00, Sky Sports+) for their Bristol Street Motors Trophy opener in Group G. The visitors overcame Manchester City's Under-21s in their previous encounter on penalties and so have a two-point lead over the Imps heading into this match.

These two sides have enjoyed decent starts to their league campaigns, which could lead to an interesting contest. Read on for my Lincoln vs Chesterfield prediction, featuring match odds and team news.

Team News

Reeco Hackett and Ethan Hamilton remain sidelined for Lincoln and both are long-term absentees. Two of the Imps' new additions in Bailey Cadamarteri and Saxon Earley, who joined from Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle on loan respectively, will be hoping to feature. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the former's arrival, as he is a hot prospect for the Owls.

Michael Skubala is still waiting on a work permit for Erik Ring, who joined Lincoln after leaving AIK Stockholm for an undisclosed fee in the summer.

For Chesterfield, Chey Dunkley was sent off at the weekend against Gillingham in League 2, but he is available for selection in midweek. Spireites boss Paul Cook has a handful of injuries to contend with, though, as Paddy Madden, Ash Palmer, Ryheem Sheckleford, Liam Mandeville and Devan Stanton are all in the treatment room.

Cook could also opt to rest some of his key stars here, which could see Joe Quigley come in for Will Grigg up front.

Lincoln to win in 90 minutes @ 6/5

Lincoln are predicted to have a good year in League 1, and are one of the favourites to finish in the top six. They have started strongly with nine points from their first four matches, and are just a point off league leaders Stockport County.

They have won two games on the spin which should give them the confidence to defeat Chesterfield in this EFL Trophy tie, especially with it being on home soil. The Imps lost their first home match against Barnsley but responded in style with the 4-1 thrashing of Mansfield Town.

Home form is going to be key for them this year in both this competition and the league, and they will want to keep building momentum with another win here. Skubala's men have been good in front of goal thus far with nine goals in League 1, the highest in the division, and I think that they can show their attacking quality against the Spireites on Tuesday evening.

Cook's men are still adjusting to life back in the Football League and they have done well to take five points from their first batch of fixtures. However, Lincoln are in much better form and they should have more than enough to win this game in regulation time.

Lincoln to win at 6/5 Both teams to score @ 4/7

I do think both teams to score is worth backing in this clash, though. Lincoln have been potent scorers in the league, and so have Chesterfield, with seven. BTTS has also been a winning selection in four out of their six matches in all competitions this campaign, which bodes well for Tuesday's contest.

Lincoln have seen BTTS land in four of their five matches this term, so I think there is a good chance we will see goals at both ends when the two sides collide in LN5.
