Leicester vs Southampton Prediction: Foxes can capitalise on Saints’ slip

Leicester City can take a giant step closer to automatic promotion in the Championship when they welcome rivals Southampton to the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night (20:00) live on Sky Sports.

The Foxes secured a momentous victory at home to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, while the Saints were beaten by Cardiff City, who had nothing to play for. Russell Martin's side have had their title hopes dashed and defeat here could confine them to the play-offs. Momentum is with the hosts, as are my Leicester vs Southampton predictions which are detailed below.

Leicester are 11/10 to collect the three points on Tuesday, implying a probability of 47.6%. Southampton are 9/4 to get back to winning ways, giving them a chance of 30.8%. The draw can be backed at 11/4 (26.7%).

Both teams to score is priced at 4/9, with eight of Leicester's last ten matches at home in the Championship seeing BTTS land. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 1/2.

Team News

After featuring for his second start of the season at the weekend, Leicester defender Conor Coady could maintain his position in defence. Ricardo Pereira could come back into the XI after being rested against Albion, as could James Justin and Callum Doyle.

Luckily for Leicester boss Enzo Maresca, his team have no fresh injury concerns to worry about for his side's final title push.

Southampton are missing first-choice goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu for the rest of the season. Martin could opt to make changes to the team that tasted defeat in Cardiff ahead of this gargantuan clash in the East Midlands.

The Foxes' tails will be up after their huge win over Albion last time out, which has settled a lot of nerves among the fan base. They still have work to do but that win has made it a little bit easier.

Tuesday's game will be tough because Southampton still have an outside shot of pushing for the automatic spots but it does seem likely now that they will have to settle for the play-offs. Leicester are looking to get themselves over the line and secure the title that was theirs to lose, so I fancy them to post back-to-back wins at the King Power.

However, the Saints will be up for this and will want to make amends for the tragic defeat in Cardiff. They play really good football which can certainly cause the hosts problems, and I expect them to get on the scoresheet. But with the home advantage and the fans there to spur them on, the Foxes should come away with another vital victory.

Given the quality that should be on show between these two teams, I fancy fans to be treated to a spectacle of goals at the King Power. Both teams still have plenty to fight for so there should be plenty of intensity from the get-go.
