Leeds vs Everton Prediction: Toffees can grind out a win

The opening round of fixtures in the Premier League concludes on Monday (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event) as Leeds United welcome Everton to Elland Road. The hosts will look to consolidate in their first season back in the big time, while Everton may believe they can start looking up under the charge of David Moyes.

Team News
The newly-promoted Whites are dividing opinion on whether they will have what it takes to stave off the drop this term. They have been busy in the transfer market with eight players making the switch to Elland Road, the latest being former Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who could be in line to make his debut against his former employers.
Leeds are likely to miss defenders Jayden Bogle (hip) and Sebastiaan Bornauw (calf) due to injury, while new addition Jaka Bijol is suspended after being sent off on the final day of last season for Udinese.
Lucas Perri is set to come in as the new number one goalkeeper with Ilan Meslier likely to depart the club before the transfer window shuts. Debuts could also be handed to midfielders Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach.
Leeds vs Everton Stats
- Everton have won three of the last five meetings between the two teams
- Iliman Ndiaye (EVE) saw 65% of his shots in the PL last season hit the target
Everton have made some smart additions to their squad this summer. Jack Grealish has joined on loan from Manchester City as he bids to reignite his career in hopes of going to next summer's World Cup with England.
Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are two other eye-catching signings from Villarreal and Chelsea respectively. All three could be set to start at Elland Road, with Iliman Ndiaye potentially joining Barry and Grealish in the final third.
The Toffees head to West Yorkshire without star defender Jarrad Branthwaite because of a hamstring injury that is set to keep him out for around a month.
Leeds have won their last three competitive home games and they are 11/8 to secure the three points on Monday.
The past two meetings between these two clubs at Elland Road have ended in a stalemate, with the draw marketed at 23/10, which has an implied probability of 30.3%.
Everton are 11/5 to come away with the victory and they have beaten the hosts three times in the previous five meetings.
Under 2.5 goals was a winning bet in 63% (24/38) of Everton's Premier League fixtures in 2024/25, and this is on offer at 8/11 on Monday.
Everton to win @ 11/5
I had no doubt that Moyes returning to Everton would be a perfect fit for both parties. The Scotsman had a brilliant spell at West Ham United and I still can't grasp the faction of Irons' supporters who wanted him out.
He had them regularly pushing for Europe and led them to their first piece of silverware in over 40 years with the Uefa Conference League win in 2023. Just look at the state West Ham are in now.
Their loss is the Toffees' gain in my eyes. For the first time in a long time, I think Everton supporters won't have to worry about the threat of relegation, and I do believe that a top-half finish is feasible for Moyes' men.
The Blues have a capable squad which has been improved upon in the transfer window, and there is an argument to be had - given the circumstances - that they have had the most impressive window in the Premier League.
Elland Road won't be an easy place to go for the first game but their defensive solidity and the added quality they've added in midfield and attack, I fancy them to get off to a winning start.

Iliman Ndiaye 1+ shots on target @ 8/11
I think Everton attacker Ndiaye could be set for a big season with the Toffees, given the quality that has been added to the squad that can help his game reach another level.
The former Marseille man scored nine goals in 33 games in the top flight last term, and he will be itching to surpass that figure in this campaign. I predict that he will have a starring role at Elland Road for the visitors, but rather than go all out on him to find the net, I'll take caution and go for him to hit the target.
In the Premier League in 2024/25, the 25-year-old saw 65% (17/26) of his shots hit the target. With more talented players around him this year, I think he can pose an even bigger threat in front of goal.
