Real Madrid vs Real Oviedo Prediction: Visitors can win a half

Watching Real Madrid over the next few weeks and months might be one of the most interesting clubs to follow with the expected appointment of Jose Mourinho but they still have a season to finish off first. A trip to already relegated Real Oviedo comes on Thursday night as they look to finish their campaign on some sort of a high. Kick-off is set for 8PM with Premier Sports 1 broadcasting the game live to UK viewers.

*Odds correct as of the time of publication
Real Madrid return to the Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday night, and they're likely to feel the anger of their fanbase following a disastrous fortnight on and off the pitch. Their opponents won't be in any better spirits, after Real Oviedo's relegation was confirmed earlier this week.
Barely a day goes by right now without some kind of fresh drama at Real Madrid. Last week brought two separate incidents of physical confrontations between players, as well as a fan backlash against Kylian Mbappé.
Regardless of whether he starts, the Frenchman is likely to be one of the primary targets for the Bernabéu boo boys against Oviedo. He has been heavily criticised for taking a trip to Sardinia while he was recovering from a hamstring injury, and also for what was at best an ill-advised social media post during El Clásico, when his team were already 2-0 down against Barcelona.
There were no more goals in that game, as Real Madrid's slim title hopes ended in a fairly timid fashion. Defeat at Camp Nou confirms there will be no silverware for Los Blancos this term.
There is enough quality in the squad for the new coach, which looks set to be José Mourinho, to turn things around in the 2026/27 season, but a seemingly toxic and divided dressing room will take some fixing.
Mourinho should command the respect of a squad that can take little pride in the events of this campaign, with both Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa failing to make their mark. The 63-year-old is clearly the preferred choice of Florentino Pérez, who made headlines of his own on Tuesday with a bizarre press conference, which saw the club's president launch scathing attacks against La Liga, Barcelona and sections of the media.
The football almost feels secondary right now at Real Madrid. They have three more matches to play, none of which really matter. The first of those games also now carries little significance for Real Oviedo.
The Asturians have spent most of the season propping up the table. There was a brief glimpse of a potential revival in early April when they won back-to-back matches against Sevilla and Celta Vigo. Their 3-0 victory at Balaídos suggested Guillermo Almada's team could kick on and at least take their survival fight to the final week of the season.
However, they've picked up just two points from four games since then. The writing was on the wall after a 0-0 home draw against Getafe on Sunday, when second-half red cards for Javi López and Kwasi Sibo hampered their push for a late winner.
It wasn't until the following evening that Oviedo's immediate return to the second tier was formally confirmed by a 90th-minute goal from Girona's Cristhian Stuani against Rayo Vallecano.
Los Carbayones have ultimately paid the price for a poor start to the season, and a lack of firepower. Despite some impressive showings from striker Fede Viñas since the turn of the year, their tally of 26 goals is the lowest in La Liga. They didn't add nearly enough quality to their squad following a long-awaited promotion in 2025.

Team News:
Real Madrid's injured contingent won't be too upset to be missing out on a fixture which will likely see supporters vent their anger at an underperforming team. Éder Militão, Fede Valverde, Rodrygo, Arda Güler and Ferland Mendy are all confirmed absentees. Arbeloa also has doubts over Dean Huijsen and Andriy Lunin, who have both been unwell.
Mbappé is expected to be fit enough to play some part in the game. Dani Carvajal and Dani Ceballos are also available again, with changes possible following defeat at Camp Nou at the weekend.
Real Oviedo will have to cope without the suspended Sibo and López following their indiscretions against Getafe. They're also missing Brandon Dominguès and Leander Dendoncker as a result of injuries, while London-born Ovie Ejaria is rated doubtful.
Almada may give some squad players a chance in the final two matches, but he'll likely field a strong lineup at the Bernabéu. With eight league goals since the turn of the year, Viñas will be the dangerman up top.
Real Madrid vs Real Oviedo Predicted Lineups
- Real Madrid: Courtois, Alexander-Arnold, Asencio, Rudiger, F. Garcia, Diaz, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Bellingham, G. Garcia, Vinicius
- Real Oviedo: Escandell, Alhassane, Calvo, Costas, Vidal, Fernandez, Reina, Cazorla, Hassan, Vinas, Chaira
Match Odds:
Real Madrid are priced at 2/7 to slightly brighten the mood in the white half of the Spanish capital with a victory. You can back the Draw at 5/1, while Real Oviedo are priced at 8/1.
If you're expecting a positive response from Los Blancos, they are priced at 7/4 to win this game with a -2 Handicap. The hosts are also on offer at 5/4 to win to nil, while they can be backed to triumph in both halves at 6/4.
Alternatively, Real Oviedo or Draw is priced at 12/5. You can back La Liga's bottom club to score first at 13/5, while Both teams to score is on offer at 4/5.
Vinícius Júnior has been the chief attacking threat for Real Madrid in recent weeks. The Brazilian has netted four times in his past four games, and he is on offer at 7/2 to score first, and 19/20 to score anytime on Thursday night.
You can back Jude Bellingham to bounce back from a really disappointing Clásico performance with a goal at odds of 8/5. From a visiting perspective, Viñas is priced at 9/4 to get on the scoresheet, while you can back Ilyas Chaira to score anytime at 10/3.

Real Madrid vs Real Oviedo Stats
- Real Madrid's recent form through their past five matches is D W D W L
- Real Oviedo's recent form through their past five matches is W D L L D
- Oviedo have the worst disciplinary record in terms of red cards with ten in 35 matches.
- Only Real Betis (2) have been awarded fewer penalties than Real Oviedo (3)
- Oviedo's keeper has been busy having made 140 saves, 14 more than Levante who have the second-most.
Bet 1 - Alavés over 9.5 shots & Alavés over 3.5 corners @ 5/6
While the 100-point objective will be a source of motivation for Barcelona, this clash may come around a little too quickly following El Clásico and their title celebrations. Alavés are fighting for their lives, and will play with a level of intensity that may be difficult for their opponents to match.
Alavés have carried a genuine attacking threat since they appointed Sánchez Flores. They are averaging exactly two goals per game with the 61-year-old at the helm. The hosts also average 5.94 corners per 90 minutes in front of their own fans this season.
I can see them asking plenty of questions in this game, and I'm using the Bet Builder to back Alavés to have over 9.5 shots and win over 3.5 corners at 5/6.
Bet 2 - Toni Martínez to score anytime @ 7/5
The ace in Alavés' pack as they bid to mount a late escape act is certainly Martínez. He has been in stunning form, with seven goals in his past seven appearances.
The 28-year-old is a real handful, with his average of 4.8 aerial challenges won per game the highest in La Liga. Having been cleared to play in this match, Martínez will surely be the focal point of the home team's attacking threat again.
With Barcelona expected to rotate in defence, and potentially even in goal where Wojciech Szczęsny is the unconvincing alternative to Joan García, I'm backing Martínez to score anytime at 7/5.
