Match Preview:

There's Friday night action in La Liga as Getafe play host to Girona at the Coliseum. The visitors are currently propping up the table, but with only three points separating the bottom eight, a win would see them climb out of the relegation zone.

As for Getafe, they'd move into the top six with a victory. That position would flatter them to quite a large degree, given they've looked toothless in attack in most of their league games, but it has been a better week for José Bordalás and his side.

Los Azulones picked up an excellent 1-0 win in Bilbao against Athletic Club last weekend. Bordalás sprung a surprise by switching to a 4-2-3-1 system in that game, having consistently used a back five previously this season. The change worked, and Getafe limited their opponents to very few opportunities in a disciplined defensive display, before Borja Mayoral popped up with a late winner.

That was their fourth win of the season, and their third on the road. They've had some success playing on the break on their travels, but have found it tough going at times at the Coliseum, where there's more expectation on them to dictate the tempo and control the game.

Their xG total of 7.0 is by some distance the lowest in La Liga. That highlights their conservative approach, and frequent problems carving out chances. However, that certainly wasn't an issue in midweek, as Getafe ran out 11-0 winners in the Copa del Rey against minnows Inter de Valdemoro. They scored more goals in one night than they'd previously managed all season.

Girona should put up a bit more resistance, although their defending at times this season has resembled that of a lower-league team. Some terrible individual and collective errors contributed to a few heavy defeats during the opening weeks of La Liga 2025/26. They lost 5-0 to Villarreal and 4-0 at home to newly-promoted Levante, but there has been a clear improvement since then.

Míchel's side have only lost one of their last six matches in all competitions. That came via a 2-1 margin away against Barcelona, and they spurned some excellent chances in that game and would have taken a point had Ronald Araújo not scored a stoppage-time winner.

They'd have been hoping for better than a 3-3 home draw against fellow strugglers Real Oviedo last weekend. The Catalans benefitted from a few questionable refereeing decisions as they came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2, with deadline-day signing Azzedine Ounahi making a big impact when he came off the bench on his return from injury. However, they couldn't see the job through, with David Carmo netting a 98th-minute equaliser for the visitors.

Girona were also spared a major embarrassment in midweek, with extra-time goals from Ukrainian duo Vladyslav Vanat and Viktor Tsygankov needed to see off fifth-tier Constància 3-2 in the Copa del Rey.

Team News:

Getafe's Allan Nyom completes a two-game ban on Friday night, after he was sent off just 37 seconds after coming onto the pitch for an off-the-ball challenge on Real Madrid's Vinícius Júnior a fortnight ago.

18-year-old full-back Davinchi is the only injury absentee for the hosts. They're unlikely to make many changes to the team that won in the league last weekend.

As for Girona, Míchel has more thinking to do after a couple of unconvincing performances in the league and cup. Veteran striker Cristhian Stuani has made an impact with three goals over the past week, but may have to be content with a place on the bench again.

The visitors are missing Juan Carlos, David López, Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Francés to injuries.

Getafe vs Girona Predicted Lineups

  • Getafe: Soria, Femenia, Iglesias, Duarte, Djene, Rico, Liso, Milla, Arambarri, Juanmi, Mayoral
  • Girona: Gazzaniga, A. Martinez, Reis, Blind, Moreno, Gil, Martin, Witsel, Roca, Vanat, Stuani

Match Odds:

Getafe head into this game as the 6/5 favourites. You can back Girona to claim a much-needed win on the road at 11/4, while the Draw is priced at 2/1.

If you're not convinced by the visiting defence, you can back Getafe to score over 1.5 goals at 13/8. Both teams to score is priced at 6/5, while you can get odds of 13/8 for there to be over 2.5 goals in the match.

Girona are priced at 11/8 to win either half. They can also be backed to keep a clean sheet at 21/10, while they're available at 3/1 to score over 1.5 goals.

Mayoral leads the way in the goalscorer betting. The Getafe striker is available at 9/2 to score first, and 15/8 to score anytime. You can also back Adrián Liso to register his fourth goal of the season in La Liga at 9/4.

From a visiting perspective, Vanat is expected to lead the line, and he's priced at 11/5 to score anytime. Stuani's role may again come off the bench, and the Uruguayan is on offer at 6/1 to score last.

Getafe vs Girona Stats

  • Only Real Oviedo (30%) are worse for BTTS than Getafe (40%) through ten games. Girona are at 60%.
  • Girona are also better than average for Over 2.5 Goals (60%) with Getafe once more at 40%.
  • No player has scored more than three times so far this season. Adrian Liso and Borja Mayoral are both on that mark.

Bet 1 - Draw or Getafe & Over 7.5 corners @ 5/6

While Girona have taken some positive steps since a disastrous start to the season, they are still making a few too many errors, and don't look like keeping clean sheets. Their only league win came at home against an unconvincing Valencia, and there's little reason to think they are going to come to the Coliseum and defeat a stubborn Getafe side.

Even in this fixture, the hosts will set up in a relatively cautious way. They've let in only 1.2 goals per game in La Liga, and only 0.75 per 90 minutes at home. Their solid defensive foundations should ensure they get something from this match.

With Girona averaging 9.25 corners conceded per away fixture in the league, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Draw or Getafe and Over 7.5 corners at 5/6.

Bet 2 - Azzedine Ounahi to have 1 or more shots on target @ 2/1

While there hasn't been much to like about Girona's transfer business in the last three windows, they do look to have unearthed a gem in the shape of Ounahi. The Moroccan has added some energy in midfield, and he's clearly got an eye for a goal too.

After his impressive cameo against Oviedo, the 25-year-old will surely return to the starting lineup at the Coliseum. Ounahi has registered at least one shot on target in each of his last three appearances, while he's averaging a shot every 46 minutes in La Liga so far.

I can see him looking to get forward to support the Girona frontman here, and I'm backing Ounahi to have one or more shots on target at 2/1.
