Celta Vigo vs Osasuna Preview:

Improving Osasuna travel to take on Celta Vigo at the Estadio de Balaídos this Friday in La Liga. The visitors are starting to look like potential European contenders, but they trail their seventh-place opponents by seven points heading into this game.

Celta are bidding to qualify for a continental competition for the second year in a row. They've been one of the few outright success stories in La Liga over the past 18 months. Claudio Giráldez has done a brilliant job, and he's built a young team that has recovered well from a slow start to this season.

The Galicians didn't win any of their opening nine league fixtures, with seven of those games ending 1-1. They finally broke out of that cycle with a 3-2 win in the reverse fixture against Osasuna on matchday 10.

Giráldez's side have steadily climbed the table since then, with a memorable 2-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu in December the highlight of their campaign to date. Williot Swedberg scored both the goals on that occasion, but experienced striker Borja Iglesias has been their most reliable threat up front.

There was some significant late business in Vigo as the transfer window concluded, which has shaken up Celta's attacking options. Bryan Zaragoza, largely viewed as their marquee summer signing, was released from his loan to join Roma. His replacement is a familiar face, with Fer López rejoining the club on a temporary deal, following an unsuccessful £20m move to Wolves.

Osasuna also made two major signings in the January transfer window. Javi Galán arrived from Atlético Madrid several weeks ago, and has already established himself as the first-choice left-back for Los Rojillos.

The Pamplona club also forked out €5m to sign Raúl Moro from Ajax. The young winger impressed in a desperately poor Real Valladolid side in La Liga last season, but made surprisingly little impression in Amsterdam following a summer move to the Eredivisie.

Playing for Alessio Lisci, who has consistently shown his faith in young players during his managerial career, could be what Moro needs to kickstart his career. The Osasuna boss has already had a similar impact on ex-Real Madrid youngster Víctor Muñoz, who was outstanding in the first 45 minutes last weekend in a 2-2 draw against Villarreal.

There have been clear signs of improvement from the visitors in recent weeks. Excluding a penalty shootout defeat in the Copa del Rey, they've only lost one of their last eight matches in all competitions. It's also eight goals scored in the space of just three league outings, with key victories over Real Oviedo and Rayo Vallecano easing them clear of the relegation scrap.

Team News:

Celta also signed Álvaro Núñez from Elche on transfer deadline day. The 25-year-old has been a regular for Los Franjiverdes this term, but an injury is likely to prevent him from featuring on Friday.

Otherwise, the hosts should have a full squad available. They've had the luxury of a rare free midweek, following a busy end to January in the Europa League.

Iker Benito is an injury absentee for Osasuna, with the 23-year-old unlikely to feature again this season due to a torn ACL. They are also missing Lucas Torró for this game due to suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow card last weekend. That is a significant blow in midfield, particularly with Jon Moncayola unwell and not part of the travelling party.

Iker Muñoz looks sure to come in as a result of those issues, while Aimar Oroz is pushing for a recall, potentially at the expense of new signing Moro.

Celta Vigo vs CA Osasuna Lineups (Predicted)

  • Celta Vigo: Radu, Rodriguez, Starfelt, Alonso, Carreira, Roman, Moriba, Mingueza, Lopez, Iglesias, Swedberg
  • CA Osasuna: Herrera, Rosier, Boyomo, Catena, Galan, Moncayola, M. Gomez, Munoz, Ruben Garcia, Moro, Budimir

Match Odds:

Celta Vigo start as the 1/1 favourites. You can back the Draw at 12/5, while Osasuna are available at 11/4 to secure what would only be their second away win of the season in La Liga.

Over 2.5 goals is on offer at 6/5, while the hosts are priced at 6/5 to score over 1.5 goals. You can back Celta to win the game to nil at odds of 15/8.

Osasuna have won on two of their last three visits to this ground, and you can get odds of 7/1 for them to emerge victorious in a match that sees both teams score. The visitors are also available at 13/10 to win either half.

Iglesias leads the way in the Goalscorer markets. The Spain international is priced at 7/2 to score first, while you can back him to score anytime at odds of 7/5. Meanwhile, López is on offer at 16/5 to hit the ground running and score anytime on his return to Balaídos.

The only player to have reached double figures for league goals so far among these two sides is Osasuna's Ante Budimir. The prolific Croatian is priced at 4/1 to score first, and 13/8 to score anytime.

Celta Vigo vs CA Osasuna Stats

  • Celta Vigo are one of three La Liga sides to have only had one red card so far this season.
  • These are the two teams with the best save percentage in the league - 76.5% and 77.5% respectively.
  • The hosts have a 64% record for BTTS in home matches.

Bet 1 - Both teams to score @ 1/1

Osasuna have the feel of a team that is starting to click in the final third after an unconvincing start to the Lisci era. The Italian is keen to play positive football, but has a pragmatic side to him too, which we also saw last season at Mirandés, when a defensive start to the campaign eventually made way for a much more attacking second half of the season.

We may be starting to see a repeat of that trend at Osasuna, with all of their last four games seeing both teams score. With the threat of relegation easing, and with a bit more quality coming through the door in January, Lisci will now feel like he has the tools to take more risks, even in a tough away game like this.

Celta always try to move the ball well and commit bodies forward when they play at home, so this has the makings of one of the better Friday night matches of the season in Spain. I'm backing both teams to score at odds of 1/1.

Bet 2 - Víctor Muñoz 1+ shots on target & Over 7.5 corners @ 7/4 via Bet Builder

Nobody has embodied Osasuna's improvement in the final third in recent weeks more than Víctor Muñoz. The 22-year-old arrived in the summer with raw pace, but very little top-level experience having barely featured for Los Blancos last term.

Lisci was loyal to him even when he wasn't playing particularly well, but there has been much more end product from Muñoz in recent weeks. He's had at least one shot on target in each of his last three matches, scoring twice including a vital late winner against Oviedo.

Operating as a number 10 last time out, the youngster had four attempts in a dynamic display against Villarreal, with his new-found confidence clear. I can see him being heavily involved in a relatively open game here too, and I'm using the Bet Builder to back Muñoz to have 1+ shots on target and Over 7.5 corners at 7/4.
