La Liga takes a breather this weekend, with the Copa del Rey final taking place in Seville. It promises to be an entertaining clash between Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad, who have been a resurgent force in 2026 under their American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.

This was always shaping up to be a competitive affair, and Atleti's Champions League commitments over the past fortnight could leave Diego Simeone's side at a slight disadvantage. While they benefited from playing against 10 men for around an hour across the two legs of their quarter-final against Barcelona, a huge shift was still needed to secure a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Ademola Lookman's strike settled the tie on Tuesday at the Estadio Metropolitano, after Barça had raced into a 2-0 lead on the night. Both sides had chances to add to their respective tallies in a thrilling encounter, which ended with Los Rojiblancos advancing into the last four.

Their inability to count upon the services of first-choice centre-backs Dávid Hancko and Marc Pubill very nearly proved costly. Clément Lenglet had a night to forget in defence, but barring any late injuries, he will drop out this weekend at La Cartuja, with Pubill available again.

Atlético Madrid have actually lost five of their last six matches in all competitions. However, punters probably shouldn't read too much into that, given they've been rotating heavily in recent league games. Simeone named youngsters Julio Díaz, Dani Martínez, Javier Boñar and Rayane Belaid in his starting lineup for the 2-1 defeat at Sevilla last weekend.

As for Real Sociedad, they are still fighting hard for European qualification via La Liga, but they can make sure of that by winning the Copa del Rey. The San Sebastián-based club last triumphed in this competition when they beat rivals Athletic Club in the 2019/20 final, in a fixture that was finally played one year later in 2021 due to the pandemic.

Mikel Merino, Martín Zubimendi, David Silva and Alexander Isak were among their starters on that occasion. Five years on, this isn't quite as impressive a Real Sociedad side, but they can still count on the services of Mikel Oyarzabal, who scored the only goal in that all-Basque final.

The 2025/26 campaign has been a season of two halves for La Real. They looked like potential relegation candidates before the turn of the year, with summer appointment Sergio Francisco dismissed in December.

Matarazzo arrived as a relatively unknown name, having only previously coached in Germany with Stuttgart and Hoffenheim. The New Jersey-born boss made an instant impact. His first game was a spirited 1-1 home draw against Atleti, and that was the start of a nine-match unbeaten run, which included cup victories over local rivals Osasuna, Alavés and Athletic.

Summer signings Carlos Soler and Gonçalo Guedes have found new leases of life under Matarazzo, who has only lost three of his 18 games in charge. One of those defeats came via a 3-2 margin in the reverse fixture against Los Rojiblancos last month.

Team News:

Four days on from their Champions League quarter-final second leg, Atlético Madrid are expected to field a similar lineup, with Pubill replacing Lenglet the most likely change. Hancko has been named in the squad, but it's unclear whether he'll be ready to take his place in defence following an ankle injury. José María Giménez is also rated doubtful.

Interestingly, Juan Musso was named in goal in midweek, despite Jan Oblak returning to fitness. The Slovenian's status as Atleti's first-choice keeper has never been under greater threat, although Musso was always expected to start this game having been used in the Copa del Rey until this point.

Real Sociedad must decide whether to keep faith with their cup goalkeeper, Unai Marrero, or go with the more experienced Álex Remiro. That may be a tough decision for Matarazzo, but easier ones should see Oyarzabal and Guedes recalled, after both were rested in the league last time out.

Álvaro Odriozola is sidelined with an ACL injury, while the game may also come too soon for Igor Zubeldia. Take Kubo made his first appearance in nearly three months following injury last Saturday, and a lively cameo off the bench suggests he could play some part in Seville.

Atlético Madrid vs Real Sociedad Predicted Lineups

  • Atletico Madrid: Oblak, Molina, Le Normand, Lenglet, Ruggeri, Simeone, Llorente, Koke, Lookman, Alvarez, Griezmann
  • Real Sociedad: Marrero, Aramburu, Martin, Elustondo, Gomez, Soler, Turrientes, Sucic, Mendez, Barrenetxea, Oyarzabal

Match Odds:

Atlético Madrid are the 5/6 favourites to win the match in regulation time. They're also given a 2/5 chance of lifting the Copa del Rey for the first time in 13 years.

You can back Real Sociedad to win in 90 minutes at 16/5, while the Draw is on offer at 13/5. La Real are available at 7/4 to lift the trophy.

If you're expecting another entertaining game involving Los Rojiblancos, Over 2.5 goals is priced at 10/11. They're given an 11/4 chance of winning a match that sees both teams score.

You can back Real Sociedad to score over 1.5 goals at 5/2, while the underdogs are priced at 6/4 to win either half.

Antoine Griezmann is priced at 4/1 to score first, and 13/10 to score anytime. The Frenchman, who will move to Orlando City this summer, is looking to cement his legacy as an all-time Atleti great by finally winning one of the big two honours in Spanish football.

You can also back Julián Alvarez to score anytime at 6/4, while Oyarzabal is on offer at 11/5 in the same market for the Basques.

Atlético Madrid vs Real Sociedad Stats

  • Atletico have only been awarded two penalties in La Liga this season. Joint-bottom of the list. Real Sociedad have been given six.
  • Both teams have had 2.55 Goals + Assists per 90 minutes in pain this season.
  • These are two tight defences with the Atletico keeper having only made 73 saves with Real Sociedad's at 79. Oviedo top the list at 130.

Bet 1 - Both teams to score @ 5/6

Real Sociedad have shown a willingness to take the fight to the top clubs, with a 2-1 victory over Barcelona their standout result under Matarazzo to date. They've scored in all 18 of their fixtures under the American, with both teams netting in 14 of those matches.

Atlético Madrid are also a team that looks more convincing going forward than they do at the back. They allowed seven big chances against Barcelona in midweek, and could easily have been punished. While they should be a bit more assured with Pubill returning, there will still be gaps for La Real to exploit.

With Simeone's team only failing to net in one of their last 14 games, odds of 5/6 for Both teams to score look generous.

Bet 2 - Mikel Oyarzabal 1+ shots on target & Real Sociedad over 4.5 corners @ 19/10

Oyarzabal is one of the most underrated players in Spain, largely because he has stayed loyal to his boyhood club, rather than joining one of the giants. He has proven himself to be a big-game performer, scoring in the final of Euro 2024, as well as in his only previous cup final at club level.

The 28-year-old has already netted eight times for his country in the 2025/26 season, while a return of five goals in six appearances overall sends him into this showpiece in great form.

I'm expecting a fresh Real Sociedad to be really competitive in this final. They've been winning plenty of corners lately, with 25 across their last three games alone.

Given that, I'm using the Bet Builder to back Oyarzabal to have 1+ shots on target and Real Sociedad to have over 4.5 corners at 19/10.
