Juventus vs Manchester City Bet Builder Tips: 16/1 shot for a couple of cards

Manchester City's strange run of form continued at the weekend as they drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace, further losing ground in the title race. On Wednesday night they turn their attention back to Europe and the Champions League as they travel to Turin to take on Juventus. 

This one kicks off at 20:00 on TNT Sports 2, and given both teams have only picked up eight points from their five matches so far, there’s a decent amount riding on this game - even if I think the new league format is quite frankly, rubbish. Under 2.5 goals

I’ve gone for a really straightforward Bet Builder tonight for a number of reasons. First of all, I have no idea which Manchester City are going to turn up, and they’ve struggled in Europe - as have their hosts. I’ve genuinely got no clue as to the match result here, so we are going to steer clear of backing that, and instead look at other angles.

My first plan of action is to target under 2.5 goals. It’s not a market I’d usually be keen on given Pep Guardiola’s men have such a wealth of attacking talent, and can put teams to the sword with ease. However, their recent form, added to Juventus’ defensive resolve, gives me reason to believe that this will be a low-scoring affair. 

The Old Lady secured an impressive 0-0 draw at Villa Park last time out in this competition, a result that is looking better and better every time Unai Emery’s side win in Europe. They’ve won every other home match so far, including against Bayern Munich, so to come away with a point marks a decent achievement for Thiago Motta’s side.

He usually sets up in a 4-2-3-1 system, a formation that can be compact when they drop in. With Teun Koopmeiners a hardworking number 10 playing in front of a combative midfield and conservative defence, they seem to be able to limit the opposition to a handful of chances in most matches. The stats back this up - under 2.5 goals has been a winning selection in six of the nine matches played at the Allianz Stadium across all competitions this season.

City have seen plenty of goals in Europe this season, but did draw 0-0 the last time they came up against Italian opposition in the form of Inter Milan, on gameweek one. I can see this being a tough tactical battle, with chances at a premium, so will back under 2.5 goals to kick us off. 

Bernardo Silva and Nicolo Fagioli to get booked

“Two yellow cards please barkeep.” That completes our order for this Bet Builder with Bernardo Silva and Nicolo Fagioli the two names I’ve picked out to get booked in what I believe could be a fairly feisty encounter in northern Italy. 

Bernardo Silva is Manchester City’s most-booked player in the Premier League this season with four yellows to his name, and for this Bet Builder I want a guaranteed starter for City. He is so integral to Pep Guardiola’s style of play he should start in Italy, while his intense style of play could lead to several fouls or even dissent. He’s committed 13 fouls in the league this season, the second-highest of any Man City player and could find himself frustrated in this fixture.

For Juventus, I’ll pick out midfielder Nicolo Fagioli. He is not a certainty to start, but get him on the pitch and he is likely to pick up a yellow. He’s been booked four times in 12 Serie A appearances, despite only starting five matches in the league. He started last time out against Bologna and is likely to get at least 20 minutes on the pitch, which is enough for me. Fagioli can pick up a yellow and complete our Bet Builder.
