Ipswich town vs manchester united

Ruben Amorim takes charge of Manchester United for the first time on Sunday afternoon when his side travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town (16:30, live on Sky Sports Main Event).

The hosts got their first win of the season prior to the international break with a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, while Amorim takes over a team who have won three and drawn one of their last four matches, under caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. Read on for my Ipswich Town vs Manchester United prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Nathan Broadhead, Wesley Burns and Jacob Greaves are all doubts for this fixture, while Janoi Donacien and Chiedozie Ogbene are long-term absentees for the hosts.

However, Kalvin Phillips will return here after being suspended for the victory over Spurs.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are both back in full training for the visitors, however given that neither haven't played a minute of first-team football this season, it's unlikely they'll start on Sunday.

Kobbie Mainoo is also back in training after his recent thigh problem having not featured since the goalless draw with Aston Villa in October, while Harry Maguire remains unavailable and Lisandro Martinez will be assessed before kick-off, having been sent home from international duty with a back problem.

Summer signing Leny Yoro has also recovered from the fractured metatarsal he suffered in what was just his second appearance for the club in pre-season could be in contention to make his competitive debut this weekend.

United are 4/6 favourites to start their new era with a victory, giving them an implied win probability of 60%, with Ipswich 4/1 to claim a second win of the season and the draw is priced up at 16/5.

Rasmus Hojlund tops the anytime goalscorer market at 6/4, while Liam Delap is shortest-priced for the hosts at 13/5.

Manchester United to win and both teams to score @ 15/8

Amorim will be hoping to start his tenure as United boss with three points, and Sunday's clash with Ipswich represents a big opportunity to make it a winning start.

The Tractor Boys have the second-worst defensive record in the league and have kept just one clean sheet so far this term. In addition, Ipswich are still searching for their first win at Portman Road, taking just three points from a possible 15 on home turf. For all of United's troubles this season, they're unbeaten in their last four, and will be hoping to build on that run in Sunday's encounter.

Only Brentford, Wolves and West Ham United have shipped more than Ipswich's eight goals at home, and while United have conceded less shots on target away from home than anyone else in the league, Kieran McKenna's men have scored in nine of their 12 competitive games.

I think the hosts could find some joy against an injury-hit defence that attempts to adjust to a new formation and tactics.

Bruno Fernandes to score anytime @ 2/1

Bruno Fernandes looks like he could be one beneficiary from Amorim's system, and the 30-year-old is an undroppable asset given his recent form.

The United skipper has finally got his season up and running having scored four and provided two assists in his last four matches for the Red Devils.

In addition, Fernandes has had six goal attempts in his last two league games for United, and nobody in the entire league has created more than his 11 chances over the last 180 minutes. He also scored in Portugal’s demolition of Ireland last week, so he looks a decent pick to get on the scoresheet on Sunday.
