Ipswich Town went on a rollercoaster of emotions in midweek as they came from behind to beat Rotherham United 4-3 in the Championship at Portman Road. They conceded an injury time penalty which was believed to have earned the Millers a hard-fought point.

The Tractor Boys then went down the other end and Omari Hutchinson netted the winner.

Kieran McKenna's side will be back on home soil on Saturday (15:00) as they entertain Birmingham City. The Blues picked up a valuable three points against Sunderland last time out but the joys of the weekend were quickly dialled down.

On Monday it was revealed that manager Tony Mowbray would be stepping away from on-site duties to deal with a health concern. It is expected he will be away for the next six to eight weeks. All of us at Betfred Insights wish Tony a speedy recovery.

Ipswich vs Birmingham Betting Tips

  • Ipswich and both teams to score - 2/1
  • Birmingham to score in both halves - 5/1

Match Odds

Ipswich are the heavy favourites to win this contest at 1/2, while Birmingham are the big price of 5/1 to come away with three points and secure three wins on the spin for the first time since August. The draw can be backed at 7/2.

Both teams to score landed when the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park earlier in the season. It is 8/11 to come in on this occasion. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 4/6.

Team News

George Hirst, Brandon Williams and Jack Taylor remain unavailable for Ipswich due to injury.

Birmingham are missing midfielder Alfie Chang, who is unlikely to feature before the season ends. The Blues are another man down after defender Kevin Long departed the club on Tuesday to make a permanent transfer to MLS outfit Toronto. Fellow centre-back Dion Sanderson could make his return to the squad this weekend.

Ipswich and both teams to score @ 2/1

After their dramatic win in midweek, Ipswich pulled themselves level on points with Leeds United in second, throwing in another twist in this year's promotion race.

McKenna and his players have now won three on the spin, and they will know that they will need to keep it up if they are to get to the Premier League. They welcome another side in the bottom half of the table in Birmingham, whose results and performances have been inconsistent this term.

The Blues have won two on the bounce and will head to Suffolk with confidence, which will have been enhanced by Rotherham's valiant effort on Tuesday. We think that there will be goals at both ends in this one, but it doesn't look like Ipswich's momentum will be slowing down right now.

They leak goals but they have a knack for finding a response to go on and outscore their opponents.

Ipswich and both teams to score at 2/1

Birmingham to score in both halves @ 5/1

This market grabbed our attention as it is just as valuable as backing the visitors to win. But seeing as we're confident that Ipswich will prevail here, we've had to look elsewhere for our next tip.

After going over 70 shots and three games without a goal, Birmingham responded last week as they scored three and took six points from Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland.

Their confidence in front of goal has been raised and they will fancy there chances to score a couple against an Ipswich side that can't help but leak goals, no matter how good their attacking output is.

In the 2-2 reverse fixture back in November, Birmingham's two goals came in different halves. And with Rotherham's prolific showing on Tuesday night, the Blues will believe there are goals to be had at Portman Road.

Jay Stansfield, Juninho Bacuna, Jordan James, Siriki Dembele and Koji Miyoshi have all scored at least five goals across all competitions this term, and will bring a huge goal threat to Suffolk this weekend.

Birmingham to score in both halves at 5/1
