Inter Milan vs Fiorentina Prediction: I Nerazzurri to bounce back from Florence debacle

Inter Milan fell to just a second league defeat of the season last Thursday as they lost 3-0 to Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in a game that restarted from where it left off on December 1, in the 17th minute, when the Florence fixture was abandoned due to the on-field collapse of La Viola's Edoardo Bove.

Simone Inzaghi's side can atone for their errors almost immediately as the reverse meeting takes place at San Siro on Monday (19:45), and ahead of this Serie A contest, you can check out my Inter Milan vs Fiorentina prediction below.

Team News

Neither Inter nor Fiorentina were able to field their winter transfer window signings last Thursday due to competition rules.

All new arrivals are free to return in the reverse fixture, though, meaning Inter's AS Roma loanee Nicola Zalewski is available for selection. The Poland international's return is timely as Denzel Dumfries, who started in Florence, is suspended, so either he or Matteo Darmian will replace the Dutchman at right wing-back.

Inter's only injury concern is third-choice goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro (finger), who misses out again on Monday.

Kristjan Asllani, Benjamin Pavard, Piotr Zielinski and Medhi Taremi are among the players who could be promoted from the bench if Inzaghi sees fit to make more changes past the enforced withdrawal of Dumfries.

Football Odds

Fiorentina can call on new recruits Michael Folorunsho, Cher Ndour, Nicolo Fagioli and ex-Inter man Nicolo Zaniolo for the trip to Milan but another recent arrival, Pablo Mari, is a doubt with an unspecified injury, while Albert Gudmundsson (tonsilitis) is another whose availability is uncertain.

Pietro Comuzzo, meanwhile, misses out through suspension.

Inter Milan vs Fiorentina Odds

Inter are 4/9 to wreak their revenge on Fiorentina and chalk up a third consecutive victory - in all competitions - as the 'home' side at San Siro, implying a 69.2% chance of success, while the visitors are 6/1, or a 14.3% chance, to do the double over I Nerazzurri.

The draw is priced at 7/2, both teams to score at 10/11, and over 2.5 total goals at 4/6.

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez is 6/5 favourite to score anytime on Monday, followed by the club's top scorer this season, Marcus Thuram (11/8), while Fiorentina's Moise Kean, who bagged a brace in Florence last Thursday, is 3/1 in the same market.

The scoreline on Thursday was an embarrassing one for Inzaghi and his side so you can imagine he and the players will be desperate to respond with a win against the same opponents four days later.

Inter haven't won either of their two games this month after drawing their first of February against city rivals Milan (1-1) and trail leaders Napoli by three points prior to Gli Azzurri's Sunday night contest against Udinese, which Antonio Conte's charges are expected to win.

The gap could, therefore, be six points by the time Monday's match rolls around, and anything but a victory will leave Napoli in a commanding position at the top of the table.

All eyes will be on Inzaghi & Co. to respond, and I think they have shown they have the mentality to bounce back from setbacks.

At home, there should be more certainty of a victory as only ground tenants Milan have beat them in the league at San Siro since a 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo on September 27, 2023.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, have picked up six fewer points on their travels than at home and have won just two of their last four away from Florence, losing twice in that period.

A home win looks likely on Monday, but the visitors can make things difficult for their opponents by scoring at San Siro.

La Viola have struck in their last five games while Inter, who were breached three times by Raffaele Palladino's side just a few days ago, have only kept one clean sheet in their last five league outings and in none of their last three at San Siro.

This was a winning bet last Thursday and I see no reason it can't land again in the reverse fixture at San Siro.

Inter wing-back Federico Dimarco was introduced in the 69th minute in Florence alongside teammate Nicolo Barella and took just six minutes to force a save from David de Gea. The 27-year-old has scored three times in Serie A this season and is averaging 0.8 shots on target per game, managing at least one in three of his last four matches in the competition and two in his last outing at San Siro.

Barella, meanwhile, took his only shot of the game last Thursday within four minutes of his introduction and the 28-year-old is averaging 1.4 shots per game in 2024/25, recording six across his last three starts.

Finally, I'm backing Fiorentina striker Kean, who took his Serie A season tally to 15 with a brace against Inter last week, to at least force a save from Yann Sommer at San Siro.

The 24-year-old saw four of his five shots on Thursday hit the target, two of course going in the goal, and he's averaging 1.5 shots on target per game this term, so one is certainly achievable in Milan.
