Inter Milan vs AC Milan Prediction: The Nerazzurri to progress to the final

Inter Milan and AC Milan collide for the fifth and final time this season as they contest the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday (20:00, Premier Sports 2). Inter are gunning for a second successive Serie A title and they are also in the semi-finals of the Uefa Champions League - but they will always have time to get one over their bitter rivals.

Milan are unbeaten in the past four meetings between the two clubs in all competitions, and this is the only piece of silverware they have left to fight for this term. Read on for my Inter Milan vs AC Milan predictions, aided by the latest team news and match odds.

With Inter still fighting on three fronts, Simone Inzaghi has to be careful with his team selections. A crunch clash in the league against Roma awaits the Nerazzurri on Saturday, before their Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona.

The hosts are without the services of Valentin Carboni, Denzel Dumfries and Piotr Zielinski due to injury, while star forward Marcus Thuram is a doubt to feature.

Joaquin Correa filled in for Thuram as Lautaro Martinez's strike partner in the defeat at Bologna on Sunday but Inzaghi also has other options in Marko Arnautovic and Mehdi Taremi.

Martinez was missing for the first leg but the captain needs just one goal against the Rossoneri to become just the third Inter player in history to do so across all competitions.

Milan boss Sergio Conceicao has recently changed the set-up to a 3-4-3 in recent weeks, so competition is hot among the strikers to lead the line. Santiago Gimenez is back available and he will be tussling with Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic to spearhead the Rossoneri's attack.

Whoever gets the nod to start is almost guaranteed to be supported by Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao on the flanks.

Conceicao is missing his two main right wing-back options in Kyle Walker and Emerson Royal, while another alternative in Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also unavailable. It looks like Alex Jimenez will continue in that role as a result.

Inter have lost at San Siro just once this season, which did come at the hands of Milan, but the Nerazzuri have won nine of their past 10 fixtures here in all competitions. They are 10/11, which has an implied probability of 52.4%, to prevail in regulation time.

The last two meetings between the two rivals have ended in 1-1 stalemates, and the draw is on offer at 5/2.

Milan have won two of the four meetings with Inter this season, and they are 12/5 to win in 90 minutes.

Inter have had a much better season than their rivals so far, but it will mean nothing if they have no trophies to show for it. They are still battling for three, which is most impressive at this stage of the campaign.

The Nerazzurri may be missing a key figure in Thuram on Wednesday, but they still have most of their first-team stars available, and they should be able to bring an end to their winless streak against Milan.

Inzaghi's men are incredibly disciplined and they so often suffocate their opponents. They will look to utilise this successfully against the Rossoneri, who defeated them in the Suppercoppa Italiana final in January.

San Siro has been a greater asset for Inter this term, with just one defeat in all competitions. Yes, it may have come against Milan, but they have just have one win in their previous four attempts inside this iconic stadium.

I'm also covering under 3.5 goals to boost the odds because four of the last five meetings between the two teams have produced fewer than four goals.

Milan can certainly have their say in the second leg, though, as they are unbeaten in the past four meetings with their bitter rivals. I do think BTTS is worth backing on Wednesday because each of the last six meetings between the two sides in all competitions have produced goals at both ends.

The Rossoneri come into this match with a psychological advantage in that aspect, while Inter will be desperate to end their winless streak against their fellow tenants.

Conceicao and his players also know that this competition is their last shot at salvaging what has been a pretty underwhelming campaign, and they have the chance to beat the Nerrazzurri to get to the final.

The two clubs will be fired up for this and I believe it will lead to both of them getting on the scoresheet.
