Having suffered the heaviest defeat in Uefa Champions League final history, Inter Milan arrive for the Club World Cup this month with a few things to set straight. The addition of such a tournament to the calendar means the Nerazzurri have a chance to quickly put that 5-0 humiliation against Paris Saint-Germain to bed.

Below are my Inter Milan Fifa Club World Cup 2025 predictions, including an assessment of their squad and chances of winning the competition.

Club World Cup Team Betting Predictions - Inter Milan

  • Outright Winner @ 14/1
  • Reach the Final @ 5/1
  • Reach the Semi-Finals @ 13/5
  • Reach the Quarter-Finals @ 1/1
  • To Win Group E @ 4/9

Group EInter, River Plate, Urawa Red Diamonds, Monterrey

Fixtures: Monterrey vs Inter (02:00 BST, June 18), Inter vs Urawa Red Diamonds (20:00 BST, June 21), Inter vs River Plate (02:00 BST, June 26)

Player to watch: Lautaro Martinez

Inter’s participation in this competition was booked through their position as the fourth-best club in Uefa’s four-year rolling rankings having reached two Champions League finals in that time.

The big news is of course the exit of Simone Inzaghi after the Champions League final defeat, as he departed for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, reportedly earning a fair wedge in his new role. It's a blow for Inter after he carried them so close to glory both domestically and in Europe, with former player Cristian Chivu returning to take charge.

Having finished as a player at San Siro, he worked his way through the ranks at the academy eventually taking charge of the U19s in 2021. He stayed there for three years and then Parma came knocking in 2025, offering him their managerial job. He did lead them to safety in Serie A, with three wins and seven draws from 13 matches in charge.

That's been enough to convince Inter to give him the big gig, and it does feel like an appointment driven by emotion. Chivu's biggest task might well be a psychological one as he attempts to pick up the players that took a thrashing at the Allianz Arena at the end of May.

None of the Nerazzurri’s stars really showed up on the night, and whereas they were edged out in 2023 by a treble-winning Manchester City who weren’t much better than Inter were on the night, this time around there will be a bunch of regrets about their performance.

So while in some respects a seven-game tournament during what is normally the holiday period might be the last thing Inter’s players would want right now, it at least gives them an opportunity to bury some demons early.

Club World Cup 2025 Odds

They have the benefit of a welcoming-looking group, with Monterrey, Urawa Red Diamonds and River Plate their opposition in Group E.

The timing of those fixtures also helps, with arguably the toughest of the three meetings being the last one. As we have seen from countless tournament scenarios before now, that can lead to a less-competitive feeling to what would normally be a tough clash.

Either way, Inter are huge 4/9 favourites to top Group E, with River at 9/4 to beat them to top spot. Urawa’s 16/1 odds and the 20/1 you can get for Monterrey say much about the relative strength of this section of the draw.

Player to watch: Lautaro Martinez

I toyed with the idea of putting Federico Dimarco’s name to this heading given his need to respond to what was a nightmare evening in the Champions League final.

But that would have been harsh given that no Inter player really had an answer to PSG’s brilliance, and even after Dimarco’s withdrawal in the 54th minute the Nerazzurri continued to be bent all out of shape.

Inter should have more than enough to be a concern deep into the tournament, and when they get there it will be Lautaro Martinez who will be chief among those to whom they will turn in game-changing moments.

A World Cup winner at international level with Argentina three years ago, Martinez is reaching his likely peak at the age of 27.

And an ageing Inter squad arriving in the US having already played 59 competitive fixtures this season will need his legs and spark of creativity in the final third to give them something to hold onto.

Football Odds

Prediction: Quarter-Finalists @ 1/1

In truth, this tournament ought to prove too much for Inter given the energy expended over the past 10 months and the mental toil of Munich.

While I have them down to win their group with something to spare and get past Fluminense after that, when it comes to a potential quarter-final against Manchester City, there should only be one winner.

If they were to get through that and see off what would probably be Bayern Munich in the semis, it would truly be one of the most resilient displays of recent times.

Do Inter have that resilience about them? With an ageing group of players? And after what they’ve already been through with a last-day failure in Serie A and THAT European final? You have to bet against them going one better in the USA.
