Huddersfield vs Doncaster Prediction: Terriers can see off ragged Rovers

Wembley is starting to appear on the horizon for the eight remaining teams in the EFL Trophy and three of the four quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday night, including the clash between Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers at the Accu Stadium (19:00 GMT kick-off, Sky Sports+).

The teams are having quite different seasons in League 1, with Huddersfield in the promotion hunt in fifth place, while Doncaster are only one place and one point above the relegation zone in 20th position. Below are my Huddersfield vs Doncaster predictions, complete with all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Striker Alfie May is eligible to play for Huddersfield in this competition despite being in the middle of a four-game league suspension. Loan signing Bobby Wales is in contention to make his first start but Bojan Radulovic (hamstring) and Joe Low (calf) are out, joining long-term absentee Jack Whatmough (calf).

Antony Evans (knee), Sean Roughan (groin) and Ryan Hardie (knee) are closer to returning but may not be risked.

Doncaster have no fresh injury worries but manager Grant McCann could shake things up after an unchanged line-up put in a tired performance at Wycombe on Saturday.

Huddersfield vs Doncaster Odds

Huddersfield are the favourites at home at 4/5, with Doncaster the 3/1 outsiders to win in 90 minutes and the draw priced at 11/4. It's 4/9 that the Terriers progress to the semi-finals and 13/8 that Rovers go through.

Over 2.5 goals is priced at 8/13, with under 2.5 at 6/5, and it's 4/7 that both teams score in the match and 5/4 that one or both teams fail to get on the scoresheet.

Huddersfield Town to win @ 4/5

West Yorkshire plays South Yorkshire at the Accu Stadium on Tuesday and Huddersfield have the quality to come out on top against a struggling Doncaster side in the EFL Trophy quarter-finals.

The Terriers have had two comfortable wins over fellow League 1 teams in the knockout stage so far, with an excellent 2-0 victory at high-flying Lincoln in December before they easily saw off Rotherham 3-0 at home in the round of 16.

Liam Manning's team have taken 10 points from their last four league games and despite being held to a 2-2 home draw by Blackpool on Saturday, they have lost only two of their 16 home league games this season and are unbeaten in their last 11 home matches, stretching back to October.

Doncaster slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Wycombe on Saturday, failing to build on their midweek away win at Burton. They have had an easier run to this stage with home wins over League Two pair Chesterfield and Fleetwood and they have lost 10 of their 16 away games in League 1.

The only real factor in their favour is that they have no fixture this weekend - their next game is at home to Huddersfield again in the league on Tuesday - so manager Grant McCann has no need to rest his better players, although he may want to make changes anyway after Saturday's poor display.

Doncaster's two knockout matches in this competition have produced 10 goals and this could be another lively encounter with neither side having anything to lose by going all-out for victory.

The winners will be just one more success away from a trip to Wembley and Huddersfield are coming off two entertaining affairs having won 3-2 at Peterborough before Saturday's 2-2 draw with Blackpool.

Doncaster conceded four goals on Saturday, so both defences can be questioned, but with star striker May available in this competition the home side should have more firepower and a 3-1 Huddersfield success is an attractive correct-score option.
