The Hibees and Bhoys met three times last season, with the team from Edinburgh taking just one point from a possible nine. They achieved that thanks to a goalless draw at this venue last October and would surely see the value in a repeat performance after suffering a heavy defeat in Paisley last Sunday. But followers saw little in that performance to suggest David Gray’s men are capable of matching Brendan Rodgers’ free-scoring Hoops.

Celtic got off to the perfect start by unfurling the flag at a packed stadium before scoring four goals without reply against Kilmarnock. The champions made light work of what had been billed as a potential banana skin, racing into an early lead and keeping their foot on the accelerator. Fans want to see more of the same this Sunday for a first away win.

The pre-match betting on Sunday’s game broadcast live on Sky Sports offers no shocks, with the visitors starting as red-hot favourites. The Hoops impressed against Killie when raising the curtain in style thanks to goals from Reo Hatate, Liam Scales, Nicolas Kuhn, and Anthony Ralston. That’s the smart approach following Celtic’s emphatic win over Kilmarnock in their opener and Hibs' sorry loss to St Mirren in Paisley. If this game goes as expected, we should see Rodgers’ team ease into a 2-0-0 record for the new campaign, and they should do it in style.

Flicking through the head-to-head stats we notice the Bhoys are unbeaten in their last three against the Hibees, including back-to-back wins in their previous two. The most recent clash produced a 2-1 win at this venue in February, with Adam Idah netting a double from the penalty spot, including a 90th-minute winner.

Celtic -2 handicap @ 9/4

Moving onto our second pick from Sunday’s live game, we take the favourites to win -2 goals on the handicap. Scoring a positive result at this venue is never easy, and we expect the locals to improve on last Sunday’s horror show in Paisley. But there’s more to come from the defending champions and early pacesetters.

Picking Celtic -2 on the handicap would’ve landed you a return in last week’s win over the men from Rugby Park. It would’ve also proven a smart approach when the Celts thrashed Hibs 4-1 in Glasgow late last year. If the visitors are anywhere near as energetic and ruthless as they were last time out they should breeze to another strong victory.
