Hibs had been making good progress under new boss Nick Montgomery, but that was swiftly halted by a 4-0 loss against Rangers last weekend.

Montgomery copped some stick for the attacking approach his side adopted against the Gers, but it wasn’t an effort that lacked belief.

Meanwhile, Celtic battled to a 2-2 with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday and the Bhoys have the opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to ten points with victory at Easter Road.

Hibs vs Celtic Prediction

  • Both teams to score @ 4/6
  • Both teams to score, over 2.5 goals & Dylan Vente score anytime @ 10/3

Team news

Harry McKirdy and Jake Doyle-Hayes are out for Hibs, while defender Chris Cadden has returned to training but is a few months off a return.

Marco Tilio, Liel Abada and Stephen Welsh are out for the visitors.

Reo Hatate was forced off after just six minutes against Atletico in midweek and he looks set for a spell on the sidelines, but Maik Nawrocki could be fit enough for a place on the bench.

Match Odds

Hibs are as long as 5/1 to take all three points on home turf, with visitors Celtic 4/9 to leave with a three-point return.

Last season’s four league meetings between these two side contained no fewer than 21 goals and over 4.5 goals on Saturday could prove tempting at 3/1.

Both teams to score @ 4/6

Hibs have lost only one of their last seven matches and they appear to be a side moving in the right direction.

The Hibees were beaten 4-0 by Rangers last weekend, but Montgomery’s men are back at Easter Road and they had previously been in good goalscoring form.

Hibs scored two goals in an Edinburgh derby against Hearts, they struck twice at Aberdeen and the Leith side hit four strikes in a Scottish League Cup tie against a good St Mirren side.

Montgomery’s men have scored 21 goals in their nine all-competition Easter Road matches this term, and while Celtic are a class outfit, there are reasons to think that Hibs can play their part on Saturday.

The Bhoys were battling away in the Champions League on Wednesday and that clash with Atletico was a physical affair.

There were eight cards shown at Parkhead on Wednesday, indicating the toughness of the contest, and it would be no surprise if that left its mark.

Celtic haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last five matches and both teams can score at Easter Road.

Both teams to score, over 2.5 goals & Dylan Vente score anytime @ 10/3

There have been 37 goals in Hibs’ nine Easter Road matches this season. Celtic have seen seven of their last eight matches go over 2.5 goals and both sides look capable of contributing to a game that busts that mark on Saturday.

Summer signing Dylan Vente has scored three goals in his last six starts in a Hibs shirt and the Dutchman appears to have benefitted from having company in the forward positions.

Montgomery has opted for a 4-4-2 formation since taking to the Easter Road dugout and that seems to have had a positive impact on Vente.
