Greece vs England Prediction: Hosts could frustrate Carsley’s men

Greece take on England in the Nations League on Thursday (November 14) and both teams are in the hunt for promotion to League A of the competition.

The fixture kicks off at 19:45 at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, where England are aiming to bounce back from last month's surprise defeat to the Greeks at Wembley. Read on for my Greece vs England prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Greece welcome back Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis, who missed last month's Nations League matches due to injury. Dimitrios Kourbelis is suspended after picking up two yellow cards, so Petros Mantolas and Cardiff's Manolis Siopis should start in midfield.

Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer have all withdrawn from the England squad.

Kobbie Mainoo, Eberechi Eze and John Stones are also injured and Kyle Walker is a doubt, but wingers Noni Madueke and Anthony Gordon are in line to start.

Greece have won their last five internationals but they are 7/2 to extend that streak against 10/11 England with the draw priced up at 12/5.

Only two of England's last 17 matches have featured over 3.5 goals and it is 100/30 that there are four or more goals in Athens.

Lee Carsley is hoping for a successful end to his spell as England interim manager but his task has been made harder by the unavailability of a host of senior players.

There have been eight withdrawals from the squad for the fixtures against Greece and Ireland, while first-choice centre-back John Stones is also sidelined. An below-par England side should be opposed in Athens.

Greece have won all four of their Nations League Group B2 matches, including last month's deserved 2-1 victory at Wembley.

The return of striker Fotis Ioannidis, who scored three goals in September's wins against Finland and Ireland, sharpens up their attack and they have kept four clean sheets in their last five games.

England still have star quality, with record goalscorer Harry Kane and Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham in the squad, but they lacked fluency under Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024 and look too short to take three points on Thursday.
