It was always going to be difficult for Girona to match last season's third-placed La Liga finish and the addition of a first-ever Champions League campaign, which came to an end on Wednesday, has certainly affected results.

But with no European football for the rest of the season, Michel's troops can now focus on climbing up the standings and putting themselves back in the mix for a top-six finish.

While Girona have lost their last four matches in all competitions, they have won three of their last five league fixtures at home and that strong record at Estadi Montilivi can see them through in this encounter.

However, the hosts have kept just two clean sheets from their last nine fixtures and they may have to collect three points without recording a shutout against Las Palmas, who have amassed seven points from the last 12 on offer on their travels in the league.

Las Palmas have failed to score in just two of their last eight La Liga games on the road and they can find the back of the net again in a losing cause.

Las Palmas have been fired up this season, receiving 60 yellow cards and two reds and they could be in for a third dismissal of the campaign against Girona.

Both of those reds have come in the last two outings for Diego Martinez's side, with Ramírez given his marching orders against Real Madrid and Essugo then heading for an early bath at home to Osasuna.

Las Palmas had two players sent off when these two sides met in the Segunda Division four meetings ago, while Girona were reduced to 10 men in the reverse fixture back in October.

With the visitors involved in a relegation battle, they appear to be getting increasingly desperate in matches and it would be no surprise to see another red heading their way.
