Few had marked this one down as a top of the table clash at the start of the season. But on Saturday at 5.30pm, early pace setters Girona will host Real Madrid in a crunch clash in Spain.

Yes, Real Madrid have a phenomenal squad, and under Carlo Ancelotti could well go on to win the league this year. But Girona have been sensational, especially in recent weeks. They’ve won their last six matches on the bounce, and simply cannot stop scoring. 

They’ve now racked up 11 goals in their last three games, and in those three matches they have won whilst conceding. Defensively, they can be got at, and we can expect Real Madrid to score with all the talent at their disposal, but it feels as if Los Blancos aren’t quite firing at this moment in time. Girona to win and BTTS offers a huge price of 9/2, and it’s a result that would send shockwaves around La Liga. 

Girona 2-1 Real Madrid at 9/1

Backing the correct score market using the logic above could also deliver a big price winner. Girona beat Villarreal 2-1 last time out, are used to winning games whilst conceding and Real Madrid were beaten 3-1 by Atletico Madrid in their last away match. 

Ancelotti’s side may be second, but they haven’t looked all that convincing in recent weeks. They were woeful in that derby defeat, needed a 94th minute winner to beat Union Berlin in the Champions League, and only narrowly beat Real Sociedad. 

It feels as though this is a good time for Girona to host Real Madrid in front of a crowd who will be on top of the world. They are almost guaranteed to score, with in-form Artem Dovbyk up front, and they have what it takes to shock the club from the capital. 2-1 feels like a good pick here, and at 9/1, offers excellent value.
