Getafe vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction: A sixth consecutive stalemate between the sides?

Friday night action in La Liga this week comes from the Coliseum as Getafe host Athletic Club (KO, 20:00). There are 15 points separating the sides heading into this contest with the visitors chasing a top-four finish to secure Champions League football next season.

Getafe went undefeated in April, drawing with both Rayo Vallecano (0-0) and Real Sociedad (1-1) before beating Almeria 3-1 last time out courtesy of a Mason Greenwood brace and a strike from Jaime Mata.

Jose Bordalas' side is now 10th and just six points off seventh-placed Real Betis, who currently stand to qualify for the Europa Conference League, with five rounds of games remaining.

Last month wasn't quite as successful in the league for Copa del Rey winners Athletic Club, who drew 1-1 with both Villarreal and Granada before losing 3-1 at Atletico Madrid last weekend.

Getafe continue to be without several players through injury including Borja Mayoral, Carles Alena, Mauro Arambarri, Domingos Duarte and Juan Antonio Iglesias Sanchez.

Athletic Club full-back Yuri Berchiche missed the defeat at Atletico with an ankle injury and will be absent again on Friday, while there are doubts over the availability of midfielders Oihan Sancet and Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta, who have both picked up 'minor' thigh problems according to the club.

However, Oscar de Marcos will return after serving a one-game suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.

Getafe are 5/2 to record a first victory over Athletic Club since February 2020, giving them an implied win probability of 28.6%, while the visitors can be backed at 5/4 (44.4%).

There's been nothing separating these sides in the last few years, with all five head-to-heads since December 2021 ending in stalemate.

September's reverse fixture saw Getafe hit back both times after Athletic Club led twice to see the game ended 2-2.

The visitors need to get back on track after defeat last time out left them six points behind fourth-placed Atletico, but they will find it tricky at a venue where Getafe have collected 29 points in 16 matches - only six clubs have accrued more points at home this term.

Athletic Club should have enough to avoid defeat considering the hosts' injury list, but all three points might just be out of reach.
