Germany vs Ukraine Prediction: Hosts to get into shape for the Euros

Germany begin their final preparations ahead of hosting Euro 2024 this summer by facing Ukraine in a friendly at the Max-Morlock-Stadion in Nuremburg on Monday (19:45, Premier Sports 1). This year marks a decade since Die Mannschaft became world champions in Brazil, and they will see this tournament on home soil as an excellent opportunity to become the European champions.
Read on for my Germany vs Ukraine prediction, accompanied by team news and match odds.
Germany vs Ukraine Betting Tips
Germany are 2/5 to win this one, which gives them an implied probability of 71.4%. Ukraine are priced at 13/2, giving them a 13.3% chance of victory. The draw can be backed at 18/5 (21.7%).
Both teams to score is on offer at 4/6 and over 2.5 goals is 1/2.
Germany forward Deniz Undav has enjoyed a profitable campaign with VfB Stuttgart this season, scoring 18 goals in the Bundesliga. He is marketed at 13/10 to score anytime against Ukraine.
Team News
After we saw Kai Havertz get deployed as a left-back for Germany by Julian Nageslmann not so long ago, it's fair to say we won't see him playing there now after the year he has had with Arsenal. The attacker is likely to feature in a predominant attacking role for the Euros, whether that be at centre-forward or in midfield.
These matches before the Euros will provide an opportunity for all squad members to show Nagelsmann why they should make up Die Mannschaft's starting XI for the Euro 2024 opener against Scotland on June 14.
No one can doubt the quality in depth that Germany have in their squad this summer, and with the tournament coming on home soil, you couldn't blame people for thinking that they have a real shot of becoming champions this year.
Ukraine will be looking to do the same as they prepare for a group with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania, and they will sense their chance of progressing to the knockout stage as high. They will see this meeting with Germany as a good marker for where they are at with the tournament just around the corner, and so that they can figure out what can be worked on in time for their campaign to begin.
After scoring 24 goals in La Liga to claim the Pichichi Trophy this season, there will be a lot of expectancy on Artem Dovbyk's shoulders to deliver for Ukraine at the Euros, and he looks to be a mainstay in attack.
Germany and both teams to score @ 13/8
It doesn't seem that long ago that Germany were the big nation laughing stock in Europe after their decline from the 2014 World Cup. But recently, they have shown that they are making progress.
Friendly victories over France and the Netherlands, regardless of not being competitive, caught the world's attention. It has taken a long time but it does seem like Die Manschaft are heading back in the right direction.
And if they can further generate some momentum going into a home Euros, them winning it is not outside the realms of possibility. I fancy them to beat Ukraine because I like the roster of Nagelsmann's squad and it ensures that there is quality in depth.
Question marks remain over their defensive structure, particularly given that when these two sides met last summer they played out an enthralling 3-3 draw. Germany are still prone to conceding goals but I think they have the quality to see them outscore their opponents here, especially spurred on by a hopeful home crowd.
Kai Havertz anytime goalscorer @ 11/8
Havertz has certainly hit back at his critics this year, myself included, with his performances and stats for the Gunners. He looks to have found the right coach in Mikel Arteta to get the very best out of him in the Premier League.
He still has more convincing to do in terms of proving it wasn't just an anomaly, and a shining role at the Euros this summer will help him on his way to doing that.
He finished the league campaign with 13 goals and seven assists to his name, and he will be heading into this Germany camp with arguably the most confidence he has had since moving to England.
I imagine he will be given the nod to start against Ukraine and I am expecting to see that momentum continue onto the international stage. Ukraine are going to have a tough time keeping him quiet and I fancy him to get on the scoresheet in Nuremburg.
