Galatasaray vs Konyaspor Prediction: Gala can respond from European blow

Galatasaray suffered a setback on Thursday, losing 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt in their Champions League opener.

However, the reigning Turkish Super Lig holders have made a perfect start to their title defence, winning five from five and are backed to extend their run at home to Konyaspor on Monday (18:00).

The Anatolian Eagle won their first two games of the 2025/26 campaign but head to Istanbul on the back of a 1-1 draw at Goztepe and a subsequent 2-1 home defeat to Alanyaspor.

They were unlucky to lose 1-0 when they visited Rams Park in January and also drew 0-0 at the ground in the group stages of the Turkish Cup in February, only to be walloped 5-1 at home in April when the teams met again in the semi-finals.

Although without Victor Osimhen, home boss Okan Buruk still has a squad laced with quality and they should have no issues making it six-from-six for the new campaign.

Osimhen scored the only goal in this fixture last season but an ankle issue sustained on international duty means the Nigerian is sidelined until at least the end of the month.

Baris Alper Yilmaz was selected ahead of Mauro Icardi to lead the line against Frankfurt and may keep his place, with the Argentine still working his way back to fitness following a serious knee injury.

Konyaspor have a full squad to select from but Recep Ucar may make changes after last week's defeat.

Gala have only conceded once in the league this season but could be troubled by the Konyaspor attack.

Visiting coach Ucar likes to tinker with his formation, which helps his team test opposition defences and they have scored in all four of their league outings this season.

They can grab a goal in Sanyer, but are still likely to be outclassed.

Akgun opened the scoring in Frankfurt to net for the second game in a row after scoring his team's second in their 2-0 triumph at Eyupspor.

The 25-year-old came through Aslan's academy but hasn't always been a regular, spending time on loan at both Adana Demirspor and Leicester City.

Able to play across the attack, Akgun gives Bulut options and is capable of continuing his hot streak on Monday.
