Freiburg vs Werder Bremen Prediction: A fourth consecutive win to nil for Freiburg

One-nil, to the Freiburg, one-nil, to the Freiburg...or so goes the famous February chant, with the Breisgau-Brasilianer winning all three of their games this month by that scoreline. Bochum and St. Pauli were both beaten on home soil by Julian Schuster's side, who overcame Heidenheim at the Europa-Park Stadion between those away victories.

Team News

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (knee), Bruno Ogbus (Achilles), Florent Muslija (ankle) and Manuel Gulde (back) all still out injured for Freiburg, who could field the same starting XI as last week.

Lukas Kubler missed that win in Hamburg through illness but could return and feature on Friday for the first time since January 25.

Werder Bremen's seven-goal top scorer in the Bundesliga, Danish midfielder Jens Stage, was absent from last Sunday's 3-1 defeat to Hoffenheim with a muscle injury and he has been ruled out of this week's trip to Freiburg, joining Milos Veljkovic (back), Keke Topp (ankle) and Marco Friedl (unspecified) in the treatment room.

RB Leipzig loanee Andre Silva has made two substitute appearances since joining on loan in January and he could make his full debut for the club here.

Freiburg are 23/20 to rack up an eighth Bundesliga victory on home soil this season, implying a 46.5% chance of success, while Werder Bremen are 9/4 (30.8%) to win on the road for the first time in 2025.

The draw is priced at 5/2, both teams to score at 8/13, and over 2.5 total goals at 4/5.

To Win to Nil - Freiburg @ 3/1

It can't go on, can it? Well, in the immortal words of Mick McCarthy - it can.

Three wins to nil, all by a 1-0 scoreline, teams are finding it impossible to penetrate Freiburg in February. So much for the month of love.

I could back a fourth successive 1-0 at 15/2 here, but that might be pushing our luck a bit much, so instead I'm just going to tip a fourth straight win to nil at lower odds of 3/1 - still a tasty price, I wager.

Freiburg have kept a clean sheet in their last two home games against Werder Bremen, beating them 2-0 at the Europa-Park Stadion in October 2022 and 1-0 there in August 2023.

Ole Werner's side have lost four of their last seven away matches and have blanked in two of them, losing 1-0n to Eintracht Frankfurt on November 23 and 3-0 last time out on their travels against Bayern Munich (February 7).

With the form Freiburg are in, winning their last three games - four of their last five on home soil - I just can't look past a win for Friday's hosts, and 3/1 to raise that selection to a win to nil is too good to turn away from, especially as they won the reverse fixture 1-0 in October.

Player to Receive a Card - Niklas Stark (WER) @ 3/1

Werder centre-back Niklas Stark was booked nine times in 27 Bundesliga appearances during his debut campaign for the club in 2022/23 before seeing yellow four times in 17 outings last season. He's already on four yellows and one red in 16 matches this term and has seen 10 cards flashed in his direction across his last 10 games.

The 29-year-old is averaging 1.4 fouls per game in the German top flight and on Friday he will be up against a few Freiburg attackers that know how to draw fouls.

Ritsu Doan leads the way as he has been fouled, on average, 1.4 times per game, followed by Lucas Holer (1.1 p/g) and Merlin Rohl (0.9 p/g).

At one of the division's toughest venues to visit this season, Stark may have to make a few more fouls and risk being written into the referee's notebook.
