France vs Wales Prediction: Big French win expected

England’s group at the European Championship has taken an interesting look as the Lionesses fell to defeat against France in their opener. Now, the French are back in action as they face Wales in St. Gallen (20:00 BST, ITV1), knowing that another win would send them into the knockout stages. 

Wales need a point here to keep their hopes alive, and below you can find my France vs Wales predictions featuring team news and more. 

Team News

France will likely name the same team as the one that beat England in the opener, although Griedge Mbock is trying to get herself back fit having missed that victory. She’s got a calf problem that isn’t thought to be serious, although Laurent Bonadei may choose to leave her out for this game that France should win. 

Alice Sombath and Maelle Lakrar will continue at centre-back if she isn’t fit, while Marie-Antoinette Katoto will lead the line again having got off the mark against the European champions. Chelsea’s Sandy Baltimore also scored from the left wing in that one and will hope to get amongst the goals again, with Delphine Cascarino making up that talented front three.

Wales boss Rhian Wilkinson may choose to make some changes after a disappointing defeat to the Dutch, with Ella Powell and Rachel Rowe hoping to force their way into the XI. Wilkinson is unlikely to switch from the 5-4-1 formation she employed, with all-time top goalscorer Jess Fishlock looking to score Wales’ first goal at a major tournament. 

France vs Wales Odds

France are just 1/16 to win this game, giving them an implied win probability of 94%, while a draw can be backed at 11/1. Wales are priced at a massive 33/1 to secure a shock win while over 2.5 goals is 2/7.

France to win to nil @ 1/2

There’s a massive disparity between these two teams and I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive French win. They have got the big win they needed over England, and should now be able to top this group, which it feels like Wales are going to come away pointless from. 

The Dragons have now gone seven matches without a win since they beat Ireland in the second leg of the qualifying play-offs (D2, L5). This winless run has seen them fail to beat any other top nations, and this tough group looks like a step too far for them. In fact, they’ve not shown much attacking threat, scoring just two goals in their past four fixtures and failing to find the net more than once in those last seven. 

This should be pretty routine for the French, who will be competing in the latter stages of these Euros.

She’s now scored six goals in eight games in 2025 for her country, and is quickly establishing herself as a key figure in this squad.
