After securing their place at next summer’s Euro 2024 finals, Scotland travel to face France, who have also qualified for the tournament, in a friendly. This game will give Steve Clarke’s side an excellent test of where they are and what they might need to work on before they get another shot on the European stage.
We’ve picked out some interesting markets on offer in this match.
Match Odds
France are the overwhelming favourites in this one, with Les Bleus valued at 2/9 to emerge victorious. If you think Scotland have what it takes to come away with a draw, you can back a stalemate at 4/1. If you think Clarke’s men can pull off an upset, they are priced at 10/1.
Team news
There are no fresh injury concerns for both sides heading into Tuesday, but considering it is a friendly, both managers could make several changes to their lineups. France certainly have a lot more squad depth than Scotland, so even a rotated side will cause Clarke’s men a lot of problems.
Olivier Giroud and Marcus Thuram will hope to start the game after settling for a place on the bench in their 2-1 victory over the Netherlands on Friday.
Both teams to score (Yes) @ 6/4
Scotland are on cloud nine after booking their place at next year’s Euros and they have thoroughly deserved it with the way they have played in their qualifying group. They recorded a momentous 2-0 victory over Spain in Glasgow to help get them there, and while Spain are not quite on France’s level, they are still a very strong team.
This means that Clarke’s men will not be fazed by France’s pedigree when they face them, even if it is just a friendly. He will want to see how his players handle themselves against a nation that has played in the last two World Cup finals. A positive display in France will only boost their morale and excitement for next summer, where they will be hoping that they can make a bigger splash than they did in Euro 2020.
There is a lot of talent in the Scotland squad and if France aren’t switched on, they will punish them.
Marcus Thuram to score anytime @ 6/4
Thuram could be thrown into the starting XI against Scotland with Didier Deschamps looking to give the fringe players of his squad some valuable minutes. Thuram scored one goal in three Euro 2024 qualifiers and he has also been on the scoresheet for his new club, Inter Milan in Serie A.
The forward has scored twice in eight league matches, but he will certainly seek to up his goal output for both club and country, and if he is selected to face Scotland, it will be a great opportunity to build momentum for both France and Inter.
