  • Highest scoring half - second half @ 1/1

Team News

Didier Deschamps started what looks to be his favoured starting XI in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Luxembourg, with Mike Maignan in goal behind a four-man defence of Jules Kounde, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konate and Theo Hernandez, though Upamecano was substituted at half-time through injury and is likely to be replaced by William Saliba on Sunday.

Youssouf Fofana and N'Golo Kante provided the protection in midfield behind Antoine Griezmann, with Randal Kolo Muani, Marcus Thuram and Kylian Mbappe up front.

Deschamps may look to hand starts to other sniffing around the first XI like Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele, though it appears too soon for Aurelien Tchouameni who missed Real Madrid's final six matches of the season through injury.

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch named a strong starting XI for his first game in charge against the Netherlands on Thursday, with Alphonso Davies at left-back, Stephen Eustaquio in midfield and Jonathan David in the forward line.

Les Rouges made an encouraging start as they held the Dutch to a goalless first half, but events quickly unravelled in the second half with their hosts in Rotterdam putting four past them without reply.

Jacob Shaffelburg, Junior Hoilett and Charles-Andreas Brym are among those pushing for starts after substitute appearances at De Kuip.

Les Bleus are 2/11 to triumph on home soil, giving them an implied win probability of 84.6%, while Canada are 12/1, or a 7.7% chance, to secure a famous victory under Marsch.

The draw can be backed at 13/2, both teams to score at 1/1, and over 3.5 goals at 11/10.

France to win both halves @ 6/5

It took France the best part of 43 minutes to score against Luxembourg earlier in the week, but Kolo Muani did eventually make the breakthrough to ensure France went into the interval with a lead, one which they added to in the second half through Clauss and Mbappe.

Six of their 10 wins since losing the 2022 World Cup final to Argentina in Qatar have seen them win both halves, and I don't see them slowing down on Sunday despite starting their Euros campaign eight days later.

There are still one or two spots potentially up for grabs in the starting XI, while those on the fringes will want to ensure they are doing everything to get on the field in Germany at some stage.

Canada held out bravely against the Netherlands on Thursday before collapsing in the second half, but France are an even better side than Dutch, as evidenced in the 1-2 and 4-0 wins they recorded over Ronald Koeman's charges in Euro 2024 qualifiers.

France to win both halves vs Canada at 6-5

Highest scoring half - second half @ 1/1

I do expect France to take a lead into half-time on Sunday, but not by more than one or two goals. Canada showed their ability to hold firm in Rotterdam before tiredness and the ability of the opposition eventually caught up with them.

The second half has been the highest-scoring half in five of Canada's last six games, and I wouldn't be surprised to see France take advantage of them in the second 45 minutes in Bordeaux.

highest scoring half - second half in France vs Canada @ 1-1
