Our Spanish football expert was one of three for his Best Bets column last week but then posted very sweet profits from his Champions League previews midweek to get back into the swing of things.

As always he provides us with his three Best Football Betting Tips from La Liga for the weekend ahead of Matchday 6 in Spain's top flight...

Football Betting Tips - La Liga Matchday 6

  • Osasuna vs Las Palmas - Both Teams to Score @ 1/1
  • Getafe vs Leganés - Under 2.5 Goals and Over 49.5 Booking Points @ 17/20
  • Athletic Club vs Celta Vigo - Both Teams to Score @ 8/11

Osasuna vs Las Palmas (Saturday 15:15)

Osasuna and Las Palmas are both under new management this season and it has been a challenging start for both Vicente Moreno and Luis Carrión.

The latter took over a Las Palmas side that had gone 14 league matches without a victory and that record has since been extended to 19 winless games.

It hasn't all been doom and gloom though. They were impressive in a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid and have been carrying a greater goal threat than was the case last season when their football was quite slow and predictable under García Pimienta.

Oli McBurnie has given them more physical presence in the final third and while he's yet to score in La Liga, the former Sheffield United striker has settled quickly and set up two goals. Alberto Moleiro and Sandro Ramírez have also been playing quite well in the wide roles, so they have been causing their opponents problems.

The Canary Islanders have let in 10 goals in five matches so far though, which is an identical record to their opponents in this game. Only newly promoted Real Valladolid have conceded more times than Osasuna and Las Palmas.

It has been a mixed picture for Vicente Moreno so far at Osasuna. Replacing the popular and long-serving Jagoba Arrasate, he had big shoes to fill and the jury is still out with two really poor away performances taking the shine off a solid return of seven points from three home games.

Defensively, it's not a great surprise that they've struggled a bit given they sold their best central defender David García to Qatari club Al-Rayyan in the summer. A new-look back four is still taking shape and judging by Osasuna's Second Half collapse against Rayo on Monday night, Las Palmas should have some joy against it.

Electric winger Bryan Zaragoza, on loan from Bayern Munich, does add a new dimension to Osasuna's attacking play though and I can see this match producing goals. I'm backing Both teams to score at Evens, a winning bet in four out of five Las Palmas matches so far this term and in three of Osasuna's five fixtures.

Getafe vs Leganés (Sunday 13:00)

Only around three miles separate the Estadio Coliseum and Estadio Municipal de Butarque in the Spanish capital's commuter belt, and there's no love lost between Getafe and Leganés who will contest the first competitive South Madrid derby in nearly five years on Sunday.

It's only the seventh time the fixture has ever been played out at the top level of Spanish football. Getafe have had the edge with three victories to their rivals' one, but meetings have tended to be tetchy and often defensive affairs, with just four goals scored in the three previous La Liga clashes at the Coliseum.

There's nothing we've seen from these teams so far this term that suggests this will be any different.

Getafe have been playing with five across the middle and at times without a natural striker, due to an injury to Borja Mayoral who scored 36% of their league goals last term. He did finally return in midweek for a brief appearance off the bench in defeat at Real Betis, but after six months on the sidelines, it's doubtful he'll be ready to start this match.

Pepe Bordalás' side have scored just two goals in five matches so far and their two home fixtures have made for particularly grim viewing. Both ended 0-0 and the visits of Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad produced a grand total of just one shot on target.

There hasn't been much more to get excited about in recent Leganés matches either, at least not from the perspective of the newly promoted side. After a relatively bright start, Borja Jiménez's side have gone four matches without scoring a goal, with the last three ending in defeat.

Therefore, this feels like a match between two teams that will be low on confidence who can ill afford to lose against not only a local rival, but most likely a direct rival in La Liga's relegation scrap.

In the case of these two neighbours, it's probably fair to say that absence has not made the heart grow fonder as the clubs lock horns competitively for the first time since January 2020. There's every chance tensions could boil over at some point in what promises to be a scrappy game and I'm using the Bet Builder to back Under 2.5 Goals and Over 49.5 Booking Points at 17/20.

Athletic Club vs Celta Vigo (Sunday 15:15)

Celta Vigo were hoping last season's centenary year would deliver an upturn in their fortunes, but excitement over the big name appointment of Rafa Benítez quickly turned sour and the former Liverpool and Valencia boss departed in March.

The decision to replace Benítez with B team boss Claudio Giráldez has so far proved a master-stroke. The 36-year-old has reinvigorated this club, promoting a host of young players into the first team set-up and adopting a much more attacking brand of football.

That policy has delivered results, with the Galicians winning five of their final 10 matches last term to avoid relegation, while they've won three of their opening five this season to raise optimism at Balaídos that this could be the club's best campaign in a number of years.

Whether or not that proves to be the case, Celta certainly look like they're going to be a good watch. Their matches in La Liga 2024/25 are averaging 4.6 goals per game, the highest figure of any team in the division, with Giráldez's side already in double figures for goals scored and conceded.

In an attacking sense at least, the Celta boss seems to have the midas touch with even loanee Borja Iglesias, who failed to score a single league goal across spells in Spain and Germany last season, netting three in three for his new club heading into this match.

San Mamés is a difficult place to go though and Athletic have enjoyed a positive week thanks to road victories at Las Palmas and Leganés. After a slow start, their attacking players have started to show signs of life, with a hat-trick of assists from Iñaki Williams the catalyst for a 3-2 win in the Canary Islands last weekend.

They're dealing with a quick turnaround here though after Thursday's trip to Butarque and Ernesto Valverde will have one eye on next week's big Europa League visit to Roma. That should aid Celta's chances of being competitive in this match and it promises to be an open affair.

All of Celta's last eight matches in La Liga have seen both teams score, a run that started with a 2-1 victory over Athletic in May. I'm backing that run to extend here with Both teams to score priced at 8/11.
