Celta Vigo vs Villarreal (Wednesday 18:00)

Celta Vigo's clash with Villarreal is shaping up to be one of the most watchable of the midweek games in La Liga. Both sides are pushing hard for European qualification and both rank in the top six for goals scored this term.

This is also a meeting of a Celta side that boasts La Liga's fifth-best home record heading into matchday 33, and a Villarreal team that has the division's second-best away points tally.

There's plenty of reason for both teams to be feeling good about their chances, and we saw at the weekend how the Galicians are willing to take risks and chase maximum points in even the toughest of fixtures.

Enjoying real success against Barcelona's high line, Celta raced into a 3-1 lead at the Estadi Olímpic thanks to a hat-trick from Borja Iglesias. However, they couldn't see the job through, with the league leaders eventually fighting back to seal a 4-3 victory thanks to a 98th-minute penalty from Raphinha.

That performance was all the more surprising given Claudio Giráldez left a number of his best players on the bench. The 37-year-old does like to chop and change his starting lineups from week to week, and the home team should have plenty of fresh attacking options to bring in here, with joint-top scorer Iago Aspas and in-form Alfon González among those who could return.

Villarreal are missing their creator-in-chief Álex Baena again, but they still posed plenty of problems for Real Sociedad at the weekend in a game that ended 2-2 at the Estadi de la Ceràmica, with Yeremy Pino playing a starring role.

They are well equipped to enjoy success on the break thanks to the pace of the likes of Thierno Barry and Nicolas Pépé up front, while Ayoze Pérez continues to thrive for the Yellow Submarine, with three goals in his last four games to move onto 14 in La Liga this term, his best ever top-flight haul.

The reverse fixture was one of the games of the season, ending in a 4-3 Villarreal victory back in August, and there have been four or more goals in each of the last four meetings overall.

I fully expect this match to deliver too, and I'm using the Bet Builder to back Over 2.5 goals and Both teams to score at 8/11.

Athletic Club vs Las Palmas (Wednesday 18:00)

Las Palmas head to Bilbao on Wednesday with renewed optimism following back-to-back victories that have given them a real shot at beating the drop, just when it was starting to look like they were sliding miserably towards the Segunda División.

They'd not won a game in any competition in 2025 heading into their trip to Getafe the weekend before last. They went behind in that match too, but three second-half goals in the space of 21 minutes turned the game around and looks to have had the same impact on their season.

There were wild scenes on Saturday night as Javi Muñoz fired in a 93rd-minute winner against Atlético Madrid, one that was eventually confirmed after a lengthy VAR review, to spark the kind of celebrations that the Estadio Gran Canaria has not seen for some time.

They are still only one point and one place above the relegation zone heading into the midweek games. There is at least a sense of unity and direction again with this Las Palmas side though, one that suggests they won't collapse here, but it's hard to make a real case for them getting a result from this game.

They are missing not only their weekend match-winner Muñoz to suspension, but top-scorer

Fábio Silva to injury, with the Wolves loanee a major miss given he has netted 10 times in 24 appearances in by far the best season of his career to date.

Oli McBurnie has at least finally broken his duck in La Liga with two goals this month, but he may find himself feeding on scraps here against the Spanish top flight's best defence.

Athletic Club are very clearly prioritising the Europa League now, but they do have work still to do in order to secure a top-five finish in the league. Ernesto Valverde effectively fielded a second-string lineup at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday night, and while they were second best by a big margin in the game, they held firm until Fede Valverde's 93rd-minute breakthrough for Real Madrid.

Valverde is likely to make at least nine changes here, with goalkeeper Unai Simón and Álex Berenguer potentially the only players who will keep their places from the weekend. It will be a much stronger Athletic lineup as a result, and with only one defeat in 34 home league outings, Los Leones should get the job done.

They do have a major injury doubt over their star player Nico Williams though, with the Spain international unlikely to be risked unless 100% fit so close to next week's Europa League semi-final first leg against Manchester United.

That will aid Las Palmas in their bid to hold firm defensively, but I still can't see past a home victory and I'm backing Athletic Club to win and Under 3.5 goals at 1/1.

Osasuna vs Sevilla (Thursday 18:00)

With very little currently separating the teams in the middle section and bottom half of La Liga, it's possible to go from worrying about relegation, to dreaming about Europe, in the space of just a few games and that has been the case with Osasuna over the past week.

They'd won just once in 18 league matches heading into their home game against Girona the weekend before last, with pressure starting to build on their coach Vicente Moreno. However, a 2-1 victory in that fixture, followed by a 3-2 triumph at rock bottom Real Valladolid on Sunday, has transformed the entire outlook of their campaign.

They're now past 40 points and no longer worrying about relegation, and once again eyeing up a potential place in the Europa or Conference League, as was the case back in the autumn when they made a strong start to life under their new boss.

Sevilla meanwhile are going nowhere fast, with four straight defeats sparking a change in the dugout last week as Joaquín Caparrós returned for his fourth spell in charge on a caretaker basis until the end of the campaign, following the sacking of García Pimienta.

The club essentially pressed the panic button and replaced a coach who was largely doing a solid job in difficult circumstances, until a run of one-goal defeats in tough fixtures. 69-year-old Caparrós will certainly bring something of an old-school approach, with the hope being that he can provide enough of a lift to steer Sevilla to safety.

He didn't get a massive reaction at the weekend though, with the Andalusians held at home by a struggling Alavés side that was missing three of their first-choice defenders.

They are likely to find it much tougher going at El Sadar on Thursday where the main challenge will be trying to stop the prolific Ante Budimir.

Only Robert Lewandowski has scored more goals since the start of last season in La Liga than the Croatian. Budimir netted 17 last term and following a brace in Valladolid on Sunday, he's now on 18 this time around, a tally bettered by only Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappé.

46% of Osasuna's league goals this season have been scored by the 33-year-old and with the Pamplona-based side looking a bit more threatening in their last two matches, he should get opportunities to add to that tally against an unconvincing Sevilla. Given that, I'm backing Ante Budimir to score anytime at 11/8.
