Football Bet of the Day: More misery for Valencia?

For Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day, I’m jetting off to Spain to take in the Copa del Rey as some giant La Liga teams look to avoid upsets.
Valencia are the ones I’ve got my eyes on as they travel to face second-tier outfit Burgos CF (20:00 GMT). Check out my selection below.
Football Bet of the Day - Thursday, January 15
- Burgos CF to keep a clean sheet vs Valencia @ 13/5
*odds correct at time of publication
Burgos sit eighth in La Liga 2 and are on the fringes of the play-offs, and they are only six points behind league leaders Racing Santander. Luis Miguel Ramis has been in charge since 2024 and is tasked with taking them into La Liga for the very first time.
The new club of Burgos began in 1994 in the sixth tier, and have steadily climbed the divisions, having reached La Liga 2 in 2021. They have been a mid-team since then, finishing 11th last term, but now it feels as though they are ready to kick on and try and make the play-offs this term.
A cup run and a couple of tests against La Liga opposition should serve them well. They have already dumped out Getafe in round three, as they beat them 3-1 on home soil and next up they face Valencia to battle for a place in the quarter-finals.
Their home form is reasonable, they’ve won four, drawn four and lost three at home in the league so far, and I do fancy their chances against Valencia. One of Spain’s biggest clubs, Los Ches have fallen upon hard times and they currently find themselves in the relegation zone - sitting 18th in La Liga.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Valencia sit 18th in La Liga having scored 18 goals in 19 games
- Burgos have conceded eight home goals in 11 this term in La Liga 2
In 2018/19, they finished fourth in La Liga, qualified for the Champions League and won the Copa del Rey. Last season they were delighted with a 12th-place finish after losing just one of their last 15 league matches to climb away from danger, but they’ve fallen away again this season under Carlos Corberan.
17 points from 19 games, and just three wins all season is pretty shocking stuff, and I think a cup run isn’t too high up on their priority list - truth be told. They sit one point from safety, but more cup games leads to more congestion and so I think Corberan will rotate heavily, and I’m not sure they can afford to do that.
Instead of backing Burgos to win in 90 minutes, I’ll back them to keep a clean sheet. Valencia have only managed to score 18 goals in thier 19 La Liga matches, while Burgos are decent at the back, having only conceded 20 in 21 in the second tier. I don’t think Valencia have much in the final third, Lucas Beltrán has one goal in 16, while Hugo Duro has a better strike rate but may be left out.
I think the home side can win this tie, and certainly keep Valencia at arm’s length in 90 minutes with a clean sheet.
