Football Bet of the Day: Two goalscorers backed on Wednesday
Now, on the surface of it, yesterday’s Football Bet of the Day of over 4.5 goals for Middlesbrough 0-1 Leeds United seems like a shocker. However, Leeds had two perfectly good goals ruled out for offside, so although I will take the loss on the chin, it wasn’t as bad as it first looks on paper.
Still, we will return today looking to find that winning form again.
Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, April 9
- Robert Lewandowski and Haji Wright to score at anytime @ 11/4

I’m taking a slightly different angle to tonight’s proceedings and will take advantage of Betfred’s Multi-Match Bet Builders on their site. Now, we’ve obviously got some massive Champions League quarter-finals taking place as Barcelona host Borussia Dortmund, while Aston Villa also have a tough trip to the French capital to face PSG.
The Parisians dumped Liverpool out in the last round, but as exciting as that game could be, I’m going to focus on the Barcelona match - as well as Coventry vs Portsmouth in the Championship. There are two elite goalscorers involved in both matches, and backing them both to score in double is going to be my selection for Wednesday night.
Let’s start with Robert Lewandowski. The Barcelona man, despite now being 36, hasn’t lost the knack of scoring goals and he is a major reason why the Camp Nou club are leading the way in La Liga, and a serious contender in the Champions League. He’s now scored 38 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions this season, 25 in 29 in La Liga and nine in 10 Champions League fixtures.
He hasn’t scored in his last three in Europe however and will want to put that right as he targets the Golden Boot, up against his former side. Dortmund gave so much to Lewandowski and helped shoot him to superstardom 15 years ago, but now it’s time for him to put them to the sword.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Robert Lewandowski has scored nine goals in 10 UCL matches this term
- Haji Wright has the best goals-per-game ratio in the Championship (0.70)
- Wright has scored 11 goals in 21 matches this season
Lewandowski won back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Dortmund, and it should be noted that these two have already played each other in this season’s Champions League. That’s the new league format for you. Barca ran out 3-2 winners in Germany and although Lewa failed to score, he surely won’t be denied against on home soil.
I’m more than happy to back him to find the net, especially given Barca are the favourites to win the tie, while we should also focus on Coventry City’s record-signing, Haji Wright, as they host Portsmouth in the Championship. The Sky Blues have lost their last two matches to Sheffield United and Burnley and will be desperate to get back to winning ways after a brutal run of fixtures.
Despite playing three of the top four in their last three games, Wright has been able to deliver four goals in total, three against Sunderland and one against Burnley last time out. He’s got the best goals-per-game ratio in the league this season at 0.70, and he’s now scored 11 goals in 21 Championship appearances having missed several months with an ankle issue.
He should be able to find the net against a Pompey outfit that has conceded 45 goals in 20 Championship away games this season, and will be under the cosh at the CBS Arena. Cov need all three points to move back into the top six, so they will be desperate to put in a dominant display - and their record signing should lead the way.
Backing both Lewandoski and Wright to score tonight at a price of 11/4, is my Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, April 9.
