Football Bet of the Day: Low-scoring affair from Canada

There’s a major Nations League game between Germany and Portugal taking place on Wednesday night, but that fixture has already been covered on Insights by my colleagues. So instead, I’m casting the net slightly further afield as we look to Canada for some value.
Check out Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day down below.
Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, June 4
- Valour vs Vancouver FC - Under 1.5 goals @ 5/2

These two teams have made absolutely dreadful stats to the new Canadian Premier League season. Phillip Dos Santos has been general manager and head coach of Valour since 2021, but his side currently sit bottom of the table having picked up just five points from their eight league matches so far.
It’s remarkable that he is still in charge to be truthful. Valour finished bottom of the table in 2024 and 2023 and haven’t been able to make any sort of impact on the top flight. The beauty of North American ‘soccer’ for these teams is the lack of relegation, which means that consistent failure isn’t really punished at all.
Before Vancouver FC fans start to feel too smug - they are a pretty dreadful outfit as well. They’ve finished second-bottom in each of the two seasons since their inception in 2023, and guess where they sit right now? Yep, just one point above Valour in seventh place.
These two have consistently proven themselves to be the worst two teams in the Canadian Premier League for some time now, and their meeting on Wednesday night (17:00) is hardly going to get pulses racing, with around 3,000 fans expected to turn out for this bottom of the table clash.
Valour did actually pull off an impressive result in the first leg of their Canadian Championship quarter-final against Vancouver Whitecaps, as they drew 2-2, but you’d expect the MLS giants to dump them out of that competition when the pair meet again in a few weeks time.
The search for value for this home match against Vancouver FC brings me to the goals market. I certainly don’t want to back either outfit to win given the distinct lack of quality we have seen from the duo in 2025, but I will back this to be a low-scoring affair. Both teams have had serious trouble scoring goals so far, with Valour managing to find the net just six times in eight league fixtures.
Meanwhile Vancouver have scored eight in eight, and both defensive records are dreadful, so you could be forgiven for thinking the goals may roll in at the Princess Auto Stadium. However, I believe both managers will be extremely cautious heading into this fixture and prioritise defensive solidity above all else. They’ve both only won one of eight so far, and this match provides the best chance to pick up another three points as both teams face another season of struggle.
It looks as though they will be some way off the play-offs already, while Valour’s 0-0 draw last time out gives me some level of confidence that we will see another low-scoring affair this time out, with Vancouver failing to score in two of their last four matches. I'll back under 1.5 goals at a big price for Wednesday's Football Bet of the Day.
