Football Bet of the Day: All eyes on Bilbao

We couldn't look anywhere else for Wednesday's Football Bet of the Day other than the all-English Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The stakes for this contest are huge, as two of the Premier League's bottom five hope to salvage their respective seasons. The winner gets to lift a trophy as well as claim a spot in next season's Champions League, while the loser will sense an opportunity missed.

Wednesday's encounter looks an incredibly tough one to call with the Betfred traders having Spurs 15/8 to win in 90 minutes, the draw is 12/5 and United are 6/4. Ange Postecoglou's men are 1/1 to win the tie, while the Red Devils are 8/11 to lift a second Europa League title.

As mentioned in the introduction, both sides are looking to salvage miserable campaigns as they currently sit 16th and 17th respectively in the Premier League table.

It could be argued that United have navigated a trickier route to Bilbao, defeating Real Sociedad, Lyon and Athletic Club in the last three rounds to secure their place in the final. In addition, despite their poor domestic campaign, Ruben Amorim's side remain unbeaten in 14 games on the European stage.

Spurs saw off the challenges of AZ Alkmaar, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bodo/Glimt to book their place in Wednesday's finale, and will hoping to lift their first major trophy since winning the Carabao Cup in 2007/8. Postecoglou also has the chance to deliver on his statement of 'always winning something during his second season' at a club, a feat that has been true for the Australian since breaking into top-flight professional management in 2009.

In terms of the head-to-head meetings this season, Spurs hold the advantage, winning all three tussles between the clubs, including a 4-3 thriller in the Carabao Cup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in December.

With there not being a lot to separate the sides price-wise, I'm going to take a look at a featured bet builder for my Football Bet of the Day, which is for Dominic Solanke and Bruno Fernandes both to score.

Solanke helped Spurs advance past Bodo/Glimt with goals in both legs, and the former Bournemouth man has scored in each of his last four starts for Postecoglou's side, including their 1-0 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt in this competition.

United have conceded first in three of their last five Europa League games, and have kept one clean sheet in their last 10 matches across all competitions, so Solanke will feel that he can exploit a poor United backline.

Bruno Fernandes has been the one shining light in United's otherwise bleak season, and heads to Bilbao as the joint-top goalscorer in the competition with seven goals. The United skipper has contributed 19 goals and 16 assists across all competitions this season and it feels like he could be a deciding factor in Wednesday's final.

Backing both Fernandes and Solanke to score at 17/2 represents good value, in my opinion, as I'm anticipating goals in Bilbao.
